That seems like a gargantuan effort. How do people do this? What are freezers for? Why?

You should salt the steak before freezing it that way you don't have to wait after thawing it to cook
But I don't do any of that shit my freezers for other shit, twice-frozen meat is weird

followup. I'll tell you. No one does that. Everyone forgets the food in the freezer and it goes bad.
The freezer exists as a space to dispose of perfectly good things because our intentions outpace our actions.

>buy and bring home
you are doing this anyway
>put in fridge and wait
Why are you doing this?
>put in freezer bag and then put in freezer
Takes all of 30 seconds. Waiting doesn't take any effort whatsoever, it's the whole point of using a freezer.
>put in fridge
takes 5 seconds
>alternatively, soak in cold water
Takes 5 seconds. You're looking at maybe 1 minute of additional work to freeze some meat with the massive benefit of having it in stock in your house without needing to go to the store on a moment's notice. It lets you shop sales and discounts, too.

Sounds like you're the problem. All that is literally no effort at all.

If you just seal it properly it's not going to get freezer burnt. I guarantee you have a freezer in your home anyway, you aren't using any extra electricity for putting a steak in there.

Sometimes meats and other perishables have amazing sales, so if you’re smart you stock up and save some for later you midwit.

>What are freezers for?
For freezer food. Like tater tots and shit. Things that can be taken directly from the bag and put in the fryer, oven, etc. Ice and Ice cream are the other purpose of freezers.

Meat does not really belong in it. You can, but shit just gets left in there to burn and get thrown out. You should just meal prep properly.

>you aren't using any extra electricity for putting a steak in there
This is incorrect. You are bringing the cool thermal mass of meat down to freezing temperatures, which includes freezing water content. This consumes a lot of energy and does in fact cost money, which scales with weight. You aren't cooling ice cream when you bring it home (or any other frozen food), you are just maintaining it's temp, which is more energy efficient.

>he doesn't comprehend that the incredibly low cost freezer is running regardless

I got a bunch of pork on salt for 90 cents a pound. I bought 40 pounds. The savings are immense, and vacuum bags are unbelievably cheap so the last pound isn't even going to be freezer burned when I eat it.

In fact to add onto this, a fuller freezer actually uses less energy because less of it gets warmed up when you open the door

Because some people are high time preference. I bought a shit ton of ribeye around Easter for $4 a pound. Still have a steak every week or so. Or i even slice it real thin while it’s still frozen and marinate it and cook a broccoli beef.

specific heat of meat is basically the same as water so from 25 to -40 C 1 kg takes 65kcal = 273kJ = 273/3600 kWh at .2 $/kWh it’s 1.5 cents. Double that if you consider the efficiency of the compressor motor etc or fuck even bump it up 10x it’s pennies

No. You do not have a freezing meat problem. You have a significant retardation problem. If you were capable of even the most basic life management skills like most functioning adults, you would simply be saving money like the rest of us. At least you have identified your lack of basic competence, which is something I guess.

I often buy a lot of meat if there's a nice sale, like 4-5kgs or more that I need to store in the freezer. Just don't be a retard and cut it in pieces first, so you don't need to defrost the whole chunk everytime you want some meat. And its a great quick dinner if you are lazy or forgot to go to.the store, just pull out a piece of meat, but it on the grill or pan and you are done

AIR is the enemy, also people not letting hot foods cool to room temp before tightly packaging.
This may help:

Short answer? Go get a decent vacuum sealer. the $100 you spend will save thousands over the course of it's life if you don't waste the bags on shit that should really go in other containers.

Shit doesn't go bad in the freezer unless you packaged it poorly or have a shit freezer that doesn't stay cold reliably.

Based Math cu/ck/..
Also, a 75% full freezer with a little space left around food for airflow is WAY more efficient, lengthens the life of the freezer, and drastically cuts down on the loss from the slight Freeze-Thaw cycle that goes on every time out open the door.
Even if you don't have 20% of your freezer full, you can help it out by loading it with water bottles--also helps when the power goes out for short periods. Nothing more infuriating that having a retarded roommate stand in front of the open refrigerator door when the power has gone out from a storm.
t. haven't had a roommate for over 15 years.
