How to direct your nutrition: read meta-analysis that extract trends from decades research on hundreds of thousands of people

How not to direct your diet: listen to gurus and social media retards that appeal to simple argument

But he is right. Just because he decided to quit going keto does not mean it doesn't work. Your body is forced to burn fat when you are in a calorie deficit and have a keto diet. If you take in your daily value of carbs or more, it's going to be very difficult to burn fat.

>> No.19292895

>>19292755

I generally agree. Moreover, the main reason restrictive diets that eliminate many foods (e.g. keto, Whole30, etc) "work" is that you can't just eat whatever is available whenever you want. Reducing the amount of choices you have and forcing you to make more of your own foods will generally lead to a reduction in calories, and that's all it takes to lose weight. Then, one of two things will happen:

>you get sick of not being able to eat your favorite foods, go off the diet, and binge your way back up to starting weight or higher
>you find certain very appetizing calorie-dense foods within your diet plan, like bacon or keto baked goods, and you eat shitloads of them

Either way, they're not really sustainable long-term. IME the best way to lose weight is just to move more and cut out junk/added sugars and to avoid eating out as much as possible. It's really kinda basic and that of course is not good for selling books/supplements/YT videos/etc. We all kind of already know what's healthy and what's not, sure you can get really into the weeds on like, which fruits are healthier than others based on glycemic index or whatever, but for 95% of people that's not gonna help them optimize their diet. Everything I've read basically boils down to this:

>eat more fresh fruits and veggies
>eat fewer fatty meats like bacon
>consume less full-fat dairy
>get lots of protein from lean meats, fish, eggs (or egg whites if you have cholesterol problems), low fat dairy, and plant sources
>use healthy cooking fats like olive and avocado oil, minimize butter intake
>eat more fish like sardines, mackerel, and salmon with lots of healthy fats
>consume moderate amounts of carbohydrates, preferably less refined
>don't eat processed junk food, don't consume added sugar, minimize alcohol intake

Y'know, eat more good stuff, avoid the obviously bad stuff. And some garbage now and then won't kill you, but after a while you just don't crave it anymore.

>> No.19292938

>>19292754
He's technically right, but what CICO preachers fail to address is the hormonal effect that your food choices have on you. Eating your daily caloric expenditure in steak and veggies would have a much different effect on you than eating it in table sugar, but these sorts of people just don't care.

There's also the issue of how efficiently your body uses the energy you put into it. Your metabolism is kinda like a car engine in that its rate of fuel consumption isn't a constant, rather it depends on a bunch of factors like fuel quality and usage. There's a lot of evidence to show that when your body is running on fat, it's actually less efficient which leads to increased "burning" of calories. But isn't that what you want if you're trying to lose weight?

But then again all OP posted is a grifter trying to make money off dipshits.

We understand objectively how ketosis works. It isn't hypothetical, we know how to induce ketosis and we know the effects of ketosis.

Keto WILL allow you to lose weight. Keto is a bad diet however for a number of reasons
>diets are how you conduct yourself every day of your life. If you lose a bunch of weight on keto, the moment you stop keto you will gain it all back. Keto is a stringent and restrictive diet and most people can't maintain it their whole life
>keto diets help with weight loss but often leave you malnourished across several other areas regarding micronutrient intake
>keto is very hard to actually achieve unless you're very diligently tracking your food intake. You must stay below 20 grams of carbs regardless of how big you are or how much food you eat total. Most people who try keto just eat a ton of fatty foods but don't police themselves strongly enough to actually hit ketosis, making the diet entirely pointless

A sugar based barbecue sauce can turn a rack of ribs from keto to absolutely not keto, but most people on keto just shovel meat in their mouths Willy nilly.

Unironically the best thing a "keto" diet does for most people is significantly reduce their sugar consumption.

If you want to lose weight at a slower pace/over a longer period of time I think it makes more sense to focus on foods which increase satiety/are more nutrient than calorie dense.
For reference 100g of strawberries contains ~30 Calories. 100g of fresh pineapple contains ~50 Calories. 100g of blackberries contain ~40 Calories. 100g of cooked chicken breast contains ~165 Calories. 100g of fage fat free greek yogurt contains ~60 Calories. 100g of cooked ribeye contains ~300 Calories.

A lot of diets also try to demonize something other than highly processed junk food, which causes problems too. I guess people will try to avoid giving up addictive junk food until they're ready to admit that's the real problem. People live in a world with environment they cant control and their own biology that dictates their actions and desires.

People who live in an environment where every food item in a shop has been stuffed with sugar and msg to make you want to eat it more will get fatter than someone living in the past where their options were fresh goods from the market that cost 90% of your days wages.
Diets can tell you "ignore all items that manipulate you to stuff yourself" and focus on these items that are less addictive, end result being less calories in.

But only as a one off event. However, if you follow through with a keto diet the reduction of insulin resistance will change how your body reacts in a metabolic way. It will also lead to being in a ketosis state that is less energy efficient than carb consumption or to put it another way leads to faster weight loss.

Nta but diet is a diet, it works if you count intake/expenditure and stick to it. You are right about initial weight loss for keto though because basically all the glycogen is burned off from carb restriction (shedding some water weight because metabolic stacking of glycogen requires h2o iirc). Real keto is kinda hard to pull off though, i did it for a few months and lost insane amount of weight. It’s almost unnatural what i had to add to hit macro targets so i didn’t do it for too long. I did do some gym to combat muscle loss from going on an diet, but compared to the time i did normal portion control + intense cardio.. keto just did it faster for me and easier. probably 2-3lb compared to 3-4lbs loss per week, which honestly both are good if you can put in the work. I think from different diets, all i learn is just do what you can stick to easily and fucking hit the gym. trying to lose weight is pointless, you need to lose fat. always think of body composition and try to lose fat, not muscle from starving yourself.

There's many factors to obesity and childhood obesity in America causes people to be fat.
The problem is high fat dense foods like you see in fast food, combined with empty calories in soda(americans drink a SHIT ton of soda).
I know, I used to drink it. You can drink a 2L in an hour and a half and not even feel it, You just piss it out, no nutritional value.

It's almost like if you combine high fatty high density calorie foods with empty liquid high calorie sugars, you end up being on a 500 cal surplus pretty easily everyday WOW.
500x365=182,500/3500=52lbs a year. Wow you just gained 52lbs x 5 years now you are a fat sack of shit.

Compare that to drinking water(0 calories) and eating two bananas in the morning for breakfast(210), 800 calorie lunch and 800 calorie dinner and you're still at a deficit of 200 calories.

Japanese don't get fat because they eat whole grain carbs and natural foods, as well as tea that is a low calorie beverage with lots of water and they do this from childhood.

Not to mention the 200-400 calories japs burn walking/biking or going to the office everyday.

In the short run, sure. But after four weeks on keto, you'll become too sensitive to glucose, and balloon up. That's why you need to actually work out in order to lose weight and keep it off. You can also cycle your extreme diets, like you can do keto for 3 weeks, then switch to a classic bodybuilder "oatmeal-chicken-rice-broccoli" diet for a few weeks.

Diets like Atkins, low-carb, and slow-carb are more sustainable than keto.

If you think keto is bad, I know people who think low-salt diets result in weight loss. That can't even hope to make logical sense, while keto makes sense on the grounds of cutting carbs always being good. Carbs are unnecessary calories. If it works then let people do it.

Go ahead and count every calorie you consume and compare it against an ESTIMATED out value. Anyone with a fucking brain is just going to cut out the soda and goyslop. It's absolutely possible to control how people eat. Make nutrient poor, calorie dense pseudofood more expensive via excise taxes and less available through regulations. Obesity is mostly a food system problem. Companies have perverted science to make hyperpalatable food that is functionally addictive, much easier to prepare and more widely available than real food.

All that aside, the issue with keto is pseudoketo retards who think slopping bacon and cheese on everything makes it keto or who eat 'keto' goyslop or who eat meat slathered in sugar sauce. Thermodynamics still applies if you eat like a pig. Keto as actually prescribed is a diet full of greens and meat, only dipping into fat enough to meet caloric needs which can't be met without either fat or carbohydrates. The point is that for MOST people a diet high in fibrous plants, protein and fat makes them feel fuller than eating the equivalent calories in carbs. But there are plenty of keto friendly foods that are also objectively terrible for you.

I think a prolonged state of ketosis is also pretty unhealthy, so really it's just a cutting diet imo.
