I grew to enjoy it when I lived in glorious nippon where it is cheap and plentiful. I am now cruelly taunted in America where it is violently expensive for no fucking reason.
That said, the thing I miss most is koiwai coffee milk.

I don't know that I'd say Japanese canned coffee tastes any better, my point was that it is much cheaper than in the US.
Like, imported Japanese canned coffee in the US costs as much as domestic canned coffee, because the base price of Japanese canned coffee is so much lower. So at that point, when I'm in store selling the imported stuff I may as well buy it anyway for the novelty.
If I could get US canned coffee for a dollar a pop I'd do that up.

Sadly it’s not enough of a thing in the states. It’s a novelty and often imported from Japan and is prohibitively expensive to have any more than occasionally as a novelty. With such an emphasis on fast food and processed on the go bullshit in this country it’s remarkable that there isn’t a company offering canned coffees at reasonable prices. It does seem extremely convenient for taking out hiking, on a picnic, at a beach or boat day, or even out grilling with an ice cold coffee in the cooler.

I really really want to like it, but it's just not good.
You could pay $3 for an 8 oz can of really bitter / muddy / metallic tasting black motor oil. or you could just keep a jar of instant coffee granules at work and add it to water, and have the exact same experience for less than 10 cents.

i bet it's because there's fewer cafes in japan

whenever you see photos of japan there's plenty of food but very little that looks like a coffee shop where you can get a cup to go

in the west, coffee is everywhere so there's not much reason to can and sell prepared coffee

I do not think that is why. I lived in a relatively small city that had cafes everywhere, from big chains to small independent places. This picture is from a train station / shopping mall with at least 6 cafes.
The reason is vending machines. There are vending machines everywhere, and all of them commonly have water, tea, and coffee pretty universally. Canned coffee is just a normal thing there. It should be in the US, too.

>> No.19265400

>>19265392
>There are vending machines everywhere,
that explains it. in all my travels across canada and dipping into the US, vending machines seem to be a dying racket. even canned soft drinks seem rarer than bottled counterparts. in yurop vending machines that aren't cigarette vendors also seem fairly rare outside of places like train stations or airports.

though that did always strike me as odd, since vending machines have minimal overhead compared to an actual storefront, and you can plonk one in any little alcove. how do we bring back the vending machine, /biz/?

someone started importing boss coffee not too long ago. tried one and it was awful, don't remember which one I think it was the "americano" style with just water & coffee. Maybe the milk versions would be better but it costs a shitload as well. $4 AUD for a single 230ml can so fuck that, I'd rather just throw some cheap instant and milk powder into my milk frother/mixer then pour it over ice.

>> No.19265428

>>19265416
>racially homogenous
hard disagree, a key advantage of the vending machine distributor is you can offer a diverse product set but not have to waste tons of space at actual consumer stock points. what would normally be a pallet's worth of wasted space on something only popular among chinks or niggers is redistributed to just one slot per machine, and the lack of actual storefront in favor of a pure warehouse even at the same square footage means space is less of a concern

>doesn't chimp out
we need to arm the vending machines
if the glass gets broken a shaped charge goes off and destroys the attacker
