dip has been replaced by sunflower seeds at most American baseball parks and games
players do chew gum, but seem most seem to eat seeds
go to a game and there are seed shells everywhere
sunflower seeds have become the traditional snack at a baseball game
my sisters family are huge baseball fans, and they all eat seeds constantly and she always have multiple bags, multiple flavors, at her house
I often laugh at them because they sound like birds cracking seeds for hours when watching a game
the dry cracked lips from the salt is often an indicator of a sunflower seed addict, and/or baseball fan

I mean, I guess it's fine that you don't have them in their shells here, but ffs, you literally only have a single variety of almond in a nation of 330million+ people, too. The only nuts in shells I can find here are from the American walnut tree in my back garden and storebought pecans and chestnuts as well as the occasional brazil nut or cone of pinenuts. When I first got here, I could get filberts/hazelnuts in the shell from time to time, but they've gone now, too.

my only problem with chicharonies is they can be dry and cause me to cough from the dryness
and depending on who made them where you get them, there is often a hidden hard spot inside that will break your teeth even if 90 percent is ‘fluffy’
my wife likes to get them from the Mexican food market, and put them into a chile verde sauce and make then mushy and gooey which I personally don’t like because of the texture
she has a slab of pork belly in the fridge right now, bought from Mitsua Japanese food market, and will make homemade chicharonies. but, she will undercook them to add them to a sauce to rehydrate them and make them chewy

interesting
have had a few russian dishes and in general not a fan, but what this is, compared to what I have had, is not much different
russian friend recently told me aged cheese is not popular in russia, but using old milk to make curdled cheese, like cottage cheese, is common
his reason for russians not eating aged cheese was ‘people are poor and will just use sour milk to make cheese’
but aged cheese simply takes time and there is no added cost

It's more of a Southern/Eastern thing. The Spanish don't have a similar version (only lard, tallow). There is Spanish lardo for the Anglosaxon market, for obvious reasons. But no authentic product. We don't have it in France, Belgium and Germany either. Probably because our pigs are a lot leaner.

France, Belgium and Switzerland (where my mum grew up) have lard gras salé, from which lardons are made, and I've seen a version of it when visiting family in Germany so I'd be surprised if Spain doesn't have some variety of it of their own, as well.
It's possible the German sort is a cultural import, tho, either from Transylvania or from the days of Austria-Hungary, since it doesn't seem too different from Eastern versions.

Wurzelspeck is pretty similar, a bit more meat and it's more tender due to hot-smoking, while Salo is basically raw.
