is it as gross as it looks or am I being too judgemental of something I've never tried based solely on its unappetizing appearance

>> No.19208616

it’s not surstromming, so it should be good

Yes

no i think your initial judgement is fair
i mean. what do you expect. some kind of exotic flavor explosion?

I couldn’t get past the unsettling texture. I hear it is an acquired taste.

well sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised by the exotic foods that look gross but actually end up tasting great. I hear these are popular amongst the Brits so I figured either they're nuts or I'm the one whose wrong.

Do you like other jellied foods, aspic? The texture is a hurdle for some people. Do you enjoy eel otherwise? Anybody who says "no" needs to try unadon (Japanese grilled eel with sauce).

They're delicious, but you'll never be able to get proper eels in USA. British eels are sourced from the Thames River, the waters seasoned with centuries of human sewage, factory runoff, plague corpses, dead rats, and an ocean's worth of drunken piss. In recent years the piss mainly comes from Stella Artois, and the sewage is extra spicy from all that chicken tikka masala, adding a wonderfully complex bouquet and piquant aftertaste to the cold, wriggling, rubbery, slimy river snakes.

There's something beautifully circular and symbolic about downing a bowl of cold eels with a few dozen pints, then walking home along the Thames and "feeding the next generation" of eels with a little impromptu shit, piss, or vomit. Paying it forward.

it's as retarded as the rest of english """cuisine"""
eel is a great fish, perfect for roasting. i've never understood why it's wasted by boiling it and jellifying its juices

One of the YouTube channels where they introduce people to Korean food had a black cockney Londoner try fresh grilled Korean eel and he basically said jellied eels can't even compare and he probably can't look at jellied eels the same way ever again. And this was someone that claimed to somewhat like jellied eels.

With wild eel it's delicious, otherwise it's extremely meh. Can't find proper wild eel any more though. Eel tastes of what it eats and what it eats is garbage. So RIP this dish.

It's boiled eel that's had gelatine added to the water it was boiled in. It is the most retarded thing I've ever seen. Just flour and fry it in butter you sick fucks.

Brits use Dutch farmed eels nowadays because Thames eels are somewhere between inedible and extinct.
>>19208601
The ingredients are eel, water, and parsley.
Supposed to be eaten with a pie of Pie and beef with beef gravy inside. Topped with parsley sauce. Taste shouldn't be hard to imagine, given the extremely basic ingredients.

If you like eel, aspics, and parsley, and don't mind a shit texture, chances are you'll like it.
