It’s browned ground beef (you could use any ground meat or shredded chicken), veggies (peas, corn, green beans, whatever you want really), cream of mushroom layered on top in a casserole dish. Season with whatever you think will taste good. Then put a bunch of tater tots on top of that, sprinkle a little cheese on them if you want.
Throw that bitch in the oven and let it cool for awhile after you take it out.

Reminds me of summer '12 when I was locked up in county for a month and every Friday night was tater tot casserole night. I got put into the work release cell block doing laundry but two of the other guys got to cook all the food and eat the leftovers as a bonus. One Friday night, after they cleaned up, they came back to the cell block laughing their asses off because as they were waiting in the elevator, one of them was rubbing their belly in a "food baby" motion and a jail guard who had been watching them on the camera piped over on the intercom and asked the fat cook if it was a boy or a girl. We all had a good laugh in the block and it almost felt like being in jail wasn't so bad. I still make it from time to time, although a lot better now, but I still laugh about that.

Crumble 1.5lb raw ground beef in a layer at the bottom of a 9x13 casserole dish, the leaner the better. Try not to press it down too much. In a big bowl combine 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 1 can cream of chicken soup, 8oz sour cream and a teaspoon each of onion and garlic powder. Once that's mixed add 1lb frozen vegetables, whatever you want. I generally like corn but cut broccoli or cauliflower are also good. Spread all that on top of the ground beef in the pan. On top of that spread 8oz of a good sharp cheddar, I use tillamook vintage white. Then finally scatter 1 bag of tater tots on top and give the whole thing a dusting of seasoning salt. Bake at 400 for 1 hour, let rest for 10min before serving so it isn't too soupy.
