I have enough vacation time set up, where I can take two weeks off of work. I have enough money saved up too where I can pretty much go anywhere in the world. I have never left America, but I really just want to go somewhere that has really good food and drink and enjoy myself. I've been to NYC and LA solely for food tourism. I feel like Italy and France are the obvious choices, but I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions a little off the beaten path.

You could probably go to Thailand and live like a king for a while if you have wypipo money.

Book a Danube food cruise.
They typically start in Germany and end in Serbia, with frequent stops along the way for food. Literally everyone along that rover makes great food.

If you’re in the west i suggest Mexico City. Saw a documentary on Mexican street foods as well as have in-laws that are from Mexico, street tacos are like 9 pesos each (50¢ USD). Also Mexican street markets have so much variety of food. I highly suggest trying Suadero, rarely known in the US but should be the number 1 taco meat ever, Suadero is the top tier taco, much like a brisket taco, it’s much more juicer and fattier. Pics related Suadero taco

I'd say this guys got the right idea if your main objective is trying new foods and such. Cruises generally handle the scheduling for you and will tell you what the popular places are. It may end up a bit 'tourist-y' if you dislike that kind of thing, but the food will most likely still be fantastic and it'll probably be the easiest/most relaxing way to experience the foods of several different places.

If someone gets sick they go to their room, you don't have to deal with them like you would on a regular short passenger trip.

Greece. It's cheap, the food is amazing, there are great beaches and historical sites to visit, and the women can be pretty cute. Just stay away from Athens which is a grimey shithole.

Mexico is a great suggestion, was just there last year.
Tons of incredible food. Lots of street vendors all over the place, insanely good food.
You can pick a touristy place and just head several blocks over until you are firmly out of tourist land, the price drops by an order of magnitude and the food stops being spiced-up-taco-bell and its incredible.
The different states have different specialties too, so you can pick just about any sort of food and go for it. Want good seafood/fish tacos are your jam? hit up veracruz or nayarit.
I'm biased because my family is from there but I think mexico has the best food in the new world.

I would second Greece and Spain (and Portugal) as alternatives to France and Italy if you want your money to go farther. Thailand is also really nice, but crossing the Pacific is going to cost quite a bit more than crossing the Atlantic. I also really enjoyed Iceland and Scotland, but probably wouldn't recommend for food tourism unless there's something specific you really like (such as whiskey). Don't do a cruise, and especially don't do a train ride across the US..

Correct answers. Portugal, Slovenia, Croatia, the Hungarian countryside (if not too xenophobic). Any of the EU/USA wine or cheese trails.

Spain is shit. They can't cook and they don't care. The atmosphere comes from German, Dutch, English and Belgian tourists. Catalonia, Basque country, Extremadura and Valencia have fantastic cuisines. Just... don't expect those in Madrid.
