The story is basically a boomer journalist in the 80s was either allergic to MSG or just ate way too much chinese takeout and hurt their tummy, they wrote an article about how scary the mysterious asian chemical was, and the whole nation took it at face value
Even though all your snack foods like doritos have MSG too

How many times do we have to have this thread? There's no scientific evidence that MSG is bad for you, and it's in pretty much everything other than American Chinese food.

Fortunately this is the only time in history that journalists have twisted facts.

MSG is not nearly as bad as HFCS, Sneed oils or Glyphosate soaked grains.
Look into glutamine, and don't sweat the small stuff.

That journalist must be at least 80 years old today.

It is bad if you have a sensitivity to it. It is probably harmless in normal doses if you arent.

Glutamate is excitotoxic in the brain, but the BBB stops most of the glutamate you eat from entering the brian.

MSG does give food more flavor, but some people get headaches from it. I do not use it when cooking, but eating some of it from to-go food is ok sometimes.

I have only seen one conclusive study that msg can be "neurotoxic" but only when directly injected not eaten and absorbed/metabolized properly. I'm sure we'd know by now if it had detrimental effects worth noting it's naturally occurring in many foods besides being an additive.
