why is this not the perfect vegetarian (not vegan) substitute? Yes it's processed but it's definitely better than so.y and it has a better essential amino acid profile. so what gives /ck
why is it not more popular

>> No.19138721

Black beans and Quorn both contain all of the essential amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein that the body needs but cannot produce on its own. However, the amino acid profile of each food is different.

Black beans are considered a complete protein because they contain all of the essential amino acids in adequate amounts. They are particularly high in lysine, an amino acid that is often lacking in plant-based diets.

Quorn also contains all of the essential amino acids, but it is not considered a complete protein because it is relatively low in methionine, an essential amino acid.

However, it is possible to combine Quorn with other foods high in methionine, such as whole grains or eggs, to create a complete protein meal.

In summary, while both black beans and Quorn provide a good source of essential amino acids, black beans are a complete protein while Quorn requires combining with other foods to create a complete protein meal.

It's pretty good. I dunno what your metric for "perfect" is - it doesn't compare to meat in flavour, or protein/price, or protein/mass, but it's definitely the best of the crowd.

>> No.19138729

I guess it's the fact that you actually have to know how to cook to use it well.

>> No.19138733

It's pretty good. I get the impression it's not well known outside the uk.
I hate the texture of the mince but the pieces are alright.
The best plus it has is if you're cooking for a vegetarian you can throw it in as a quick sub to a normal recipe and it's not too bad.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. And I did mean it's the best among other meat substitutes that are available on the market, purely in terms of the degree it's processed and the quality of the protein

I want quorn to be mass produced in places like India and Africa, where there's a great need for good quality protein in large numbers.

>> No.19138752

And the production process is just perfect for mass industrialization. I can see quorn to be the space age protein where there are large vats producing mycoprotein which gets processed to be steak, chicken or whatever

it never gets its well-deserved traction because the name is an absolute dud and its bri'ish therefore harder to push to american grocery monopolies.

This, eat beans or tofu if you're going to change your diet to vegetarian. There's no reason to buy all of the various vegslop foods like quorn if you have access to soy curls, dehydrated or otherwise. When my sister and her husband lived with me while their house was being remodeled she made stir frys and curries with soy curls and they were better than any of the premade fakemeats.

>> No.19139142

It's alright. Pretty much everything I've had from them was at least okay which is surprising for vegetarian slop. Vegan is way harder to pull off though.

How does being British make it hard to get a product into a US retailer? Japan did it with Pocky and Ramune and all sorts of shit that can be found in the most podunk out of the way towns. Also, every grocer has a little Brit section right next to the Jew/Jap/Indian selection. They sell HP and spotted dick and weird heinz beans and British candy. Is it a matter of not having a manufacturing facility? I see a lot of imported stuff.

Also can any of you explain wtf Quorn is? Is it corn protein? Does it adhere to the Quran? Obv its a vegan meat sub.

Typical adverse reactions are to Quorn products are vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea. Hives, breathing difficulties, and potentially fatal anaphylactic reactions are less common.

Seems like a negative to me. Another source said:
>This food-advocacy group has since collected more than 2,000 “adverse reaction reports” on Quorn and claims it has caused dangerous allergic reactions, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and occasionally hives and difficulty breathing.

Also, supposedly it uses egg whites to emulsify, so neither vegan or vegetarian.
