My habitual blogpost about rice
I'm russian and we have a massive soup culture. Every household always has a 12L pot with soup stored in their fridge. There's a ton of different types of soups, but I won't get into that
So now I'm hooking up with this korean girl and her family eats only korean stuff (granted "soviet korean" stuff, koryo-saram). It's very rare here that an ethnic family sticks to their own cuisine
So she was having soup one day and texted me "eating soup rn", so I asked "let me guess, with black bread?" and she said "no, we add rice to it"
I went bonkers. How could they possibly just add rice to a normal soup?
I tried it this week and it's mind blowing. Rice and soup just fit together so well. It wasn't even a question of taste, it's objectively a nice pair

i'm from poland and we sometimes serve soup with rice despite not really having a "rice culture" like asians do. one of the most popular ones is tomato soup i think. worth to mention our tomato soup is nothing like the anglo version of tomato soup that kind of tastes like marinara sauce poured in a bowl, it's usually made out of a chicken soup made the day before and very rich and comfy

I'd like to know about some Russian soups that are not Borscht or beet-related.

Soup is always paired with rice in the far east desu. Koreans usually just jave some sort of soup/stew with rice + plus some side veggies like kimchi etc, it's comfy.
In my household, sometimes all we do for dinner is throw a bunch of shit in the pressure cooker and serve it with rice. It's a very fast and easy way to feed a family in one go. There's no greater feeling of home than pouring soup onto rice to let it absorb the flavours, I tell you hwat

You put the lid on top of the pot and the stuff inside the pot can't come out. The lid physically blocks the opening of the pot.

why is it that in the refrigerator the lid doesn't have to be physically in contact with the rest of the pot to block the the soup from escaping? what kind of magic is that?

not him, but you're the retard.
when asians eat rice with soup, they are generally cooked separately unlike in a bisque where the starch of unwashed rice thickens the stock. asians almost always wash their rice.
according to the wiki, bisque is either strained or pureed, not neither.

I'm also a slav from a culture which would be very perplexed at the idea of combining rice with soup. I've tried it myself and enjoyed it a lot, but I've never made a soup with the express purpose of adding rice to it.

What is a favorite recipe of yours? I'm going to introduce the idea to my gf so I want to put the best example forward. And if she hates it oh well more soup for me.

another slav here. We used to use rice as substitute for noodles to make soup more nutritious. but in modern times soups have fallen out of favour and noodles can be easily bought its been some time since i ve seen it
