Hello there anons,
Based on what is in stock in local stores, and how much money I am willing to spend, I have put together this chart on affordable but high quality (i.e fuzzy logic, neuro-fuzzy, or micom) Rice Cookers.
I am currently stuck on these three.
Unfortunately, these are the only ones that are available to me to purchase, so of these three which would /ck/ choose?
Do you have any experience with any of these models?
I would really prefer to buy something that is not made in China, but recognize that Zojirushi is the most recognizable brand name.
Please help!
Thank you very much kind anons, and please enjoy the chart I made! It took me over 9000 hours in MS paint.

I have the NS-LHC05XT, which is the Indian model. The Zojirushi in your picture is the NS-LGCO5XB which is the American model. The difference is that one has a jasmine rice button and the other has a steel cut oats button.

You list 3-cup size as a con, but actually it's a pro. Unless you have a family you'll never use all 3 cups. Keep in mind that it's talking about dry cups -- that's 1900 calories of rice. You're really gonna eat more than that in one sitting?

If you're not gonna eat more than that in one sitting, the smaller cup size is actually better than the bigger cup size. 1 cup of rice cooks better in the 3-cup pot than in the 5-cup pot. That's because less of it is "on the bottom" and more of it is "in the middle." It also stays more steamed since it's more cozy. I bought that one specifically because it's the smallest pot cooker I could find and it's a phenomenal device.

Hi Anon. Thanks so much for your input! I’m glad the zoji has been reliable for you! I currently make rice for three people, but that number goes as high as 8 people when family is over (once a week for family dinner) and will be having more kids soon. 3 cups is a disadvantage for me. I will still keep it in mind though as that is high praise

>> No.18889994

>>18889974
Also to continue: you list "made in China" as a con but this is only an issue if you have a moral or political issue with supporting the Chinese economy. I've had mine for 3 years and use it daily and it has no signs of wear whatsoever. Even the pot is still nonstick after all this time, which was an issue I had with my shitty Aroma (the pot got scratched and eventually lost its nonstick property). So I really would be surprised if this device didn't last my whole life, as long as I don't drop it or something

It can definitely handle rice for 3 people, but more may be pushing it. It depends how much rice each person wants. When I'm eating as much as I want I eat a whole cup, but when I'm trying to lose weight I eat only half a cup. I've never eaten more than 1 cup in one sitting by choice. Figuring that half of your people are going to be women and children, I think you could get away with it regardless, but I would get the one that talks just to be safe.

Not the op but funny enough I did just that today. I never thought I needed a rice cooker because I only cook rice maybe once a week. Just used a pot, but I got distracted and ended up leaving it on for a couple of hours and when I finally came back it was completely blacked and charred.
I've been scraping and soaking it for days and it's still not all off.
So I grabbed this thing today, I don't really care about getting the best rice folded over 9000 times, just want to be able to start some rice and not worry about fucking up my pot if I forget about it for a little while.

I've had a Zojirushi for 12 years at this point. It still works like it's brand new and I use it several times a week. However, I wouldn't recommend buying one if you're concerned about price. For the price I paid, I could have bought a new cheap rice cooker every single year, and my brother has has a 30 dollar Aroma branded rice cooker for as long as I have had my Zojirushi. And if someone does want an easy way to cook rice where they can just dump the ingredients in a pot and press a button, the pressure cooker does that and more. Pressure cookers are always a more worthy investment. So buying a rice cooker is pointless.

To the people saying

No, I will not. The purpose of this rice cooker is to allow me to cook more complex dishes while my rice is being made. There is quite literally nothing you could say to convince me when you yourself don’t have actual, realistic experience in the field.
I will not buy a pressure cooker, I want a rice cooker. I always bought the cheapest Chinese rice cookers and never had a single problem. I also used a pressure cooker for a while. It would stick to the side a bit if you didn't let the rice 'set' a bit, but otherwise worked fine. To be honest, these ricer cookers with all the functions - they're a waste of money. You want to make rice porridge sometimes? Sure then they can be useful. But you could just use a pressure cooker. But for rice I'd just buy the cheapest one available.

Not him but I used an instant pot to make rice for a while and it would stick to the sides of the pot unless you left it for a while. I never had that problem, even with the cheapest rice cookers. If you can literally only fit one appliance in your kitchen, I'd say electric pressure cooker. Otherwise I'd definitely go for a rice cooker.

False equivalency because clothes washers are not designed to wash dishes, while instant pots are designed to cook rice.

All rice (white, brown, wild) short grain, medium grain, long grain) absorbs the same amount of water proportionately. The only difference in cooking is time, because brown and wild rice need longer cooking time than white rice. This longer cooking time means more evaporation occurs, which is why it needs more water at the start.

So rice cookers still aren’t needed if you just have knowledge and measure the water properly.

anyway, i live in Japan, most people here use Panasonic and Tiger but Zojis are also quite popular. unless you're going to be using it as a pseudo crock-pot all you really need for a rice cooker is a timer set functionality so it starts cooking your food at a certain time of day so you can prep it in advance and it can be ready by the time you want to eat or whatever.
