An Asian market opened near me and they have a vast array of different ramens from about every country of Asia you could imagine
My question is which ones are the good ones?
Any recommendations from /ck/?

ATTENTION!!!!!!!

Adding powdered beef gelatine to your broth makes it taste better, adds healthy protein, and HELPS ELIMINATE YOUR SPICY SHITS! and aids in the digestion of the ramen.

Making an aroma oil is a really nice way to add flavor your ramen as well.

Fry up a mixture of chopped bacon, onions and jalapenos while boiling the noodles.

I tend to aire on the spicy side when it comes to ramen. What I used to do when I worked down the road from the Korean store:
>go into store with $20
>buy $20 worth of individual packs of ramen I had not tried before
>try all of them
>decide what I liked from that bunch and took pictures of the package (because lol some of them don't have any engrish text)
>return to store the next time
>repeat process
Some recommendations:
>paldo namja (kicks the shit out of Shin Black imo)
>paldo teumsae
>paldo jjajangmen
>any samyang buldak varieties
>I prefer the cheese kind
>did not like the carbonara or curry
>ottogi sesame with the egg block
>regular shin is fine if you're planning on adding stuff to it or experimenting with the "ramen hacks" that pop up all the time
>I recommend avoiding buying too many cold noodle varieties unless you've verified that you like them already

make your own
a bulk pack of dried ramen and a can of vegeta only takes 5 minutes + however long it takes to get the water boiling (and costs far less per serve than packets of instant), and you can improve it from there by making stock yourself, using fresh meat or vegetables, a splash of soy sauce or hoisin or some other sauce, aroma oils etc.
It's also less wasteful since you aren't throwing away massive amounts of plastic wrapping, foil sauce packets.
Once you start making your own you'll quickly realise how oily and artificial the instant ramens are.

Yeah but there's no prep time besides having a bowl, some hot water and cutting the packets open. Some already have a bowl and chopsticks included so you don't need anything but the water.

The point is the appeal is not having to plan anything ahead at all besides buying the package and having it at home. If I have to start making stock and chopping greens ahead of time I'm just making a meal and putting it away for later, no different from any other day. The instant for me means that if if I think about it, it's instantly available.

If you're going for real noodles, by all means ditch the pack and the spices, even make your own noodles if you like. More power to you and I've also done that sometimes.

kek that doesn't sound good. I dunno I've only had this brand once and was surprised at how good it was since the package wasn't much to look at and I'd never heard of it before. Is it even possible for instant noodles to go bad?

What I particularly liked was how chewy the noodles were, I think it's because they air-dried them but I can't recall. The soup was kinda frothy orange-white, thicker than your usual instant noodle broth and I remember it being very decent, although I can't bring the exact taste back to mind.

We might just have different taste profiles though, I keep reading people recommend Buldak here and every single packet I've tried is just overflavored and mediocre to my taste. Genuinely cannot imagine this being even in my back 10 of noodles I'd pick.

I know it's Japanese-Chinese cuisine, but it's always strange to see English language food marketing avoiding China at all costs even if the Japanese themselves don't give a shit.

why would it be cheaper to import from China than Japan? why is a 5 pack of ramen from China like $3 while one from Japan is $10+?

Just tried this. It's alright, very savory and noodles are decent. Personally as someone who's not a fan of super spicy noodles, this could really use an extra kick. Will probably add Sriracha or something else if I make them again. Surprisingly they're half as much as Indomie noodles at my supermarket for some reason, normally the Japanese stuff goes for more.

I just had one of those maruchan instant lunch cups (chicken). My heart has been racing non-stop for the past 15 minutes, what the fuck did I just consume?

True. My wife was delivered with very little additional postage.
I highly recommend ordering a wife from China. They over, they're tiny so draft to beat the shit out of when they don't and are cheap to feed and maintain. Basically no downsides

I have 4 packets of these and I don't know what to do with them. Do you have topping recommendations?

Bacon + bacon fat and a fried egg. Do half heavy cream, half water from the noodles.

i can't eat any european noodles after trying the asian ones. they taste like fucking cardboard. i can easily eat a two 120g packets of noodles from korea or japan but can barely stomach one of the 60-70g ones they sell here. the asian one cost 3 times as much tho, what a pain in the ass

These have a very unique flavor in them that I just can't quite put my finger on. The flavor seems somewhat similar to one you'd find in yakisoba. I love these, but yeah, I do generally add habanero powder to them because they do need some kick.

Crispy fried onions, obviously. These are the best topping for most non-soup Asian noodles.
If you live near a Winco, Winco has really, REALLY good store brand crispy fried onions that are cheap as shit and tasty as fuck.

I don't think I can summarise geopolitics and international business into a 4channel post, but I'll try
Basically they have different costs for inputs to make the ramen and they have separate diplomatic relations with the US results in different trade agreements. Japan has always had an isolationist mentality making many of their items less in supply and more in demand, raising their price. Japan is a small island. China is much larger and connected to greater Asia, Russia, India. They mass produce everything resulting in higher supply, lower demand and therefore lower price

How does this compare to the real stuff? I have a Korean friend who used to make it occasionally for events and parties and I kind of miss it.
It doesn't seem difficult to make, but I don't usually keep dried anchovies, dried kelp, or gochugaru around, and I feel like it could get pretty expensive.

i found a pack at the dollar store that was that style and it was a 4 pack for $1 and it was way better than indomie. i wish i took a picture of what it was it was in a white pack tho.

Gonna throw a hail mary out.
I used to get this Japanese brand of Ramen. It was pretty spicy. The cup was somewhat skinny and somewhat tall. The packaging was black red and white but its not shin noodles. Packaging was entirely in Japanese so I'm guessing it was imported.
I only ever found them at the Commissary on Lackland.

Anyone have any idea?
