The only thing that made me consider not watching him (besides going back and watching his first two episodes) was that episode which was entirely a paid promotion for a new Disney movie, from beginning to end, including the "history" (completely unrelated to the cuisine, only related to the plot of the film). In fairness he did say at the beginning that Disney asked him to do an episode about this and he agreed because he enjoyed working there, but that's very different from saying at the beginning, "This is a paid promotion." Tbf he's far from the only person to do this. (Freakonomics Radio did a paid (secondary) episode about how much the coauthor liked his Cadillac, also without any clear warning anywhere that it was a paid promotion, for example. Even if you genuinely like the company and product, even if you liked it before you started broadcasting, your TOS for the platform almost always say you have to explicitly announce a paid promotion).

Even in the olden days of TV advertising when TV hosts would themselves make the pitches, it was usually (not always) clear when there was a break from programming to advertising. But as annoying as ad jingles and subliminal messages and the like are, at least modern TV promo ads are almost completely segregated from the content (with important exceptions, which is why I'm using the word 'promo' operatively). I think a reckoning will come when streaming content will have to make this change as well.

There was a decent yt series that only ran a couple episodes, can't remember the name, but the gimmick was that they had three spinners off random ingredients and the chef would have to come up with a meal showcasing whatever three the spinner landed on. The main feature was during the (edited) cooking there were two voice-only commentators giving "live" sports-talk-like commentary, and they actually were really talented (way more so than the chef) -- in addition to having good comedy they had good natural chemistry. So despite the chef being the same in the first episodes and being pretty mediocre, the production quality was good, and of course the commentary was solid, so I actually really liked it. I imagine though, since the commentary track would have to be scripted, that it was a shitload of work to produce and if it wasn't an early hit the comedians probably would have just moved to other projects.

The final cute gimmick they had was their closing scene was the chef saying goodbye while at the sink scrubbing all the pots and pans he used.

For easy and cheap Italian food you can feed your family daily, I love Buon-a-Pettiti. It’s an old Italian grandma named Gina who has great recipes and sings while she cooks. She died a few years back but her grandson still had lots of unreleased videos so they’re still releasing new recipes. I have their cookbook as well and I have had lots of people absolutely love Grandma Gina’s recipes. Highly recommended.
