SNAP gives more like 45 a week, but the answer is "not well."
I've been on SNAP. Even just for myself it is the absolute bare minimum of nutrition assuming you have the time and ability to cook every meal and you will still lose weight.
Most people will be using SNAP to buy fast food and will run out long before the end of the period.

It's also pretty cruel that SNAP has such a limited item base. Can't even spend that shit on toilet paper.

Pretty sure 3 adults could survive a week on that amount of food, but since 2 are children and children generally eat less it's definitely doable.

I've seen this posted so many times I stopped looking at it a long time ago, but looking at it now I realized that it's actually really close to a lot of what my typical grocery trips look like (for one person). >Parents both take medication because of anxiety and depression
I do have sympathy for the children, but I am angry at the parents. The sad part is that I don't even know how to help them. The foster system is so horrible that living with an abusive parent might actually be the better solution than trying to find a more stable family.

We had "free" covid testing in Europe until news got around that a student opened a testing station which allegedly tested thousands of people, defrauding the taxpayer millions of euros.
Also it will be hard to implement without going full police state on the people.

Most places have food banks, it sounds easier to just tell supermarkets that they can't throw away food anymore and have to give all food items to a food bank 2 days before expiration. Poor people can buy there for 90% off. (Just brainstorming)

That being said, I still am angry at the parents because they put a child in a shity situation and get benefits for it.

To be fair, I didn't say that only eating that way is ideal, and I do buy veggies, but that poorer people have thrived on these foods for centuries at this point, and you need to think like a poor person when buying food if you are indeed poor. That said, and I'm not joking here, poverty has a tendency to force people to do intermittent fasting which ends up counterbalancing most latin foods. This culture was created directly by the US government's welfare system. It stated that women could only collect welfare if she didn't have a man in the house because it was assumed that if she had a man then he had a job and could provide for her, as was the natural order forever. Of course, most places simply refused to hire black people at the time the welfare program was started, even if they were required to by law, and since segregation was over there wasn't a separate black economy that was actually doing decently well for itself like in the jim crow era, so the women would have babies and then kick the men out so they could collect welfare to feed the kids. The men formed gangs because what else would a man with no job do? It really only takes one generation to destroy a culture for centuries. One generation of bastard children will create the next century's worth of bastard children and all the problems that come with them. A person who never had a father will have a tough time being one himself, and their children will suffer even worse, so on and so forth.

It is not accurate to attribute the formation of a culture or the problems within a community solely to government policies or welfare programs. There are often many complex and interconnected factors that contribute to the development and challenges of a culture or community.

It is true that the welfare system in the United States has had a significant impact on the lives of many people, including women and children. However, it is important to recognize that the challenges and difficulties faced by some communities, such as high rates of poverty, unemployment, and crime, are the result of a complex interplay of historical, economic, social, and political factors.

It is also important to avoid stereotypes and blanket statements about communities or cultures. Every individual and community is unique and has its own strengths, challenges, and experiences. It is not helpful or fair to make broad, negative generalizations about any group of people.

The national average for a family of 3 is actually 76 dollars a week.

>> No.18727761 [DELETED]

It is unlikely that $29 per week would be sufficient to cover the cost of groceries for a single mother with two children. In order to stretch your budget as far as possible, you may want to consider strategies such as shopping for sales and discounts, buying in bulk when possible, and choosing less expensive options when available. You may also want to look into programs and resources that can help you save money on groceries, such as food banks, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), and community resources that offer free or discounted food.

76$ is not great, but will cover most of your food needs if you don't indulge in fast-food.
In this case i would go with my go-to combination of chicken, peas, rice, egg and kale/broccoli.
As alternative jacketed potatoes with sour cream or cheap cheese is filling and gives you all nutrients you need. If you can afford, garnish with herbs.
Lastly, you can eat white rice with salt/butter and have some cod liver on the side. It gives you nasty farts but it's like 3 bucks per serving.
Avoid berries, red meat and shrimp. While delicious they are too expensive.
Frozen pizza can be obtained for cheap. While calorie dense, it is unhealthy to rely on it long term.
So yeah, it is possible but you might snoop out the best deals in your area.

I'm curious, how would prices for 3 lbs of chicken or 18 eggs be from say an american farmer's market?
I've always been under the impression the US and Europe had far cheaper prices on account of having vastly superior agriculture but I've never had the chance to visit either.

The fuck are you doing with that shit? If you are poor, leafy greens are like the least bang for your buck. All of that shit is single serve shit that is expensive for single fags. Avocados are richfag food too, unless on sale.

If you are a poor fag you want onions, carrots, potatoes, rice, flour, beans, and preferably IN BULK. Normally eggs would have been good back when they were like $4 for 36, but now that they are expensive, fuck that. Celery is good if you want the trifecta for cooking, but that can be omitted cause not calorically dense enough.

Then you also need to shop a the ethnic market and get your spices in bulk in bags when you have a little extra on the side. Hell, even walmart has spices for a buck a jar.

Not sure what my neighbor would charge me for eggs or a chicken though.

Whole chicken is 1.99/lb or 2.99/lb for breast at my bulk store. So a 4 pounder roaster was like 8 bucks.

Those prices are nearly quadruple the ones we have(Egypt) but I guess in between higher wages and presumably higher quality ingredients it would make sense. Supermarkets especially recently more or less categorize into local and international chains and the former have been struggling to stock much of anything. Plus te culture, at least in my family is to go to specific areas for their stuff. So we have the butcher that we trust or someone in the old country that we get rabbit meat or whole chickens from and we have a vegetable/fruits market behind us that's pretty cheap at the cost of you having to pick out what isn't rotten or immature, and there's no guarantee it's all fresh every day.

You're sidestepping the issue that it's my money. I'll support food assistance programs, they cost me like $2 per year and help a lot of people buy real food. This does not preclude me disliking people abusing these programs to guzzle down liters of Coke and perpetuate health issues that are notoriously common among the demographics of people on food assistance programs.
>Anon the entire reason you keep responding is that
I think you're objectively wrong, hence my initial post at you being in response to you replying to someone else. You seem to consider yourself privy to my inner workings but frankly you're not and I'm beginning to think you can't wrap your mind around someone supporting supplemental programs but also not wanting them to just be free money to spend on snacks. Eat delicious steak and potatoes for 3 nights for around $4.50 a plate. In one way or another, sure.
That's a very different question than "should EBT funds be restricted to not include specific foods like soda"

Even in a contrived example of 100% abuse, which you yourself admit is not remotely representative of beneficiaries, no rational person would see new limitations on SNAP as justified.
On the monetary front it costs vastly more to create and codify and implement new rules for the EBT system nationwide than is spent on soda so the "muh tax dollars!" line is right out the window.
On a moral front it is ghoulish to harshly restrict and cut social programs in the name of "preventing abuse," especially when said "abuse" is apparently drinking coke.
