I just wanna take this time to remind everyone on /ck/ that I actually knew about the fried chicken wars before everyone else did. I used to like Popeye's old chicken sandwich, the "chicken po' boy". Any of you remember this thing? It was on Popeye's menus for decades.

It was a couple of chicken strips, some lettuce, some regular mayo, and a few pickles, all in a baguette. They weren't that great, but they were cheap. The combo with fries and a biscuit cost $4.99, which was a pretty good deal at the time for me.

Anyways one fateful day I drove into my usual Popeyes to order my chicken po'boy when I noticed it was crossed off with a sharpie on the drive thru menu. When I asked why it was crossed out, the wagie working drive thru said "it becuz we ain't got it no mo. Dey be sayin we be gettin a new fried chicken sandwich soon, ya hurd". And low and behold, a few years later after that, they got the new chicken sandwiches.

I just wanted to get that off my chest. Thank you for reading my life's story.

If you're wondering why Zaxby's has fared worse compared to its peers these past couple years, this is the unironic scapegoat. It's clear that corporate is having financial or management issues seeing how they drastically cut the menu, raised prices, and lowered portions. They're more concerned about launching popsicles (AFTER summer has ended mind you) than they are about restoring their former glory. I would not be surprised to see in the news one day that the company goes bankrupt.

It's hit or miss. If you get a fresh one, they're unbelievably good considering you got it at BK. If you get one thats been under a heat lamp for an extended period of time, it will be borderline inedible and you likely won't finish it even if you're really hungry.
I've had several and the ratio for good to bad is about 50/50, so I stopped getting them about a year ago
