I tend to stick to varieties I like without paying much attention to price. For red I like Beaujolais and Cabernet Sauvignon, for white I particularly like Albariño and Fiano. Any other pro tips? I rarely drink wine but gotta cultivate it somehow because decent bordeaux and riesling probably won't be as abundant in the coming planned depression and we have had beyond lucky decades if fine weather in europe, and 12$ for a bottle is just pleading for it. This year I just noticed that wine specialists will charge random +500% premiums for stacking up the same vintages for one decade I could google myself into betting on after 15 minutes of google searches.
These prices can't continue and if 95% of all wine production stopped I wouldn't shed one tear. Dirt cheap and wine is one risky business, bottle by bottle, until you probably give up on finding the perfect one.

>> No.18378863

When I am about to run out of a wine, I don't finish it. Then I buy a different one. When I get home, I do a blind taste test between the new and the old one. If the new one wins, the process repeats. If the old one wins, I wait to finish the new one and then compare it against a different new one. Sometimes I run out of the old one during this process, so I buy it again.
The end result of all of this is that I am generally always drinking the best bottle I have yet found. Eventually I will find the best wine of them all.

And yes, I also do this same process with EVOO and balsamic vinegar and any other generic product with various brands.
