The only reason these got banned is because they taste like candy and women treated them like Smirnoff Ice, downing six at a time and ruining their livers. When used for their intended purpose (drinking one to get alert + a mild buzz for going out to the bar) they were perfectly fine. >drinking one to get alert + a mild buzz
bro im no light weight but one of these was a pretty strong buzz if you weren't a complete alcoholic
plus they're a 24oz can so nobody was drinking 6 cans
The real problem was they creeped up slowly so people didn't realize just how drunk they were until the sugar wore of after a hour or two and by then you're ripping cabinet doors off and putting cheese in the dishwasher

>> No.18340085

>>18340016
Red Bull is already more like 8 ounces vs a 24 ounce Four Loko.
From there it'd just require a bit more caffeine by volume to make it 5 times instead of 3 times.
And for alcohol, it's saying it's equal to 7 shots of vodka.
Vodka is 40% ABV, so that'd be 7 * .4 = 2.8 ounces of pure alcohol, and .12 * 24 ounces of Four Loko would be 2.88 ounces of pure alcohol.
If you use more like 1.5 oz per shot glass though then that Four Loko wouldn't cover that much vodka.
Depends on your country mostly what a shot glass amounts to apparently.

Enzymes (working at different temps, etc.) slowly break down higher level sugars, starches, etc. so the yeast can work mostly on simple sugars at a controlled-ish rate. When there's not quite enough to eat, the yeast cleans up after itself. This is really oversimplified, but giving the yeast all its food at once leads to things that aren't just ethanol and CO2, and the yeast might go dormant or die before cleaning up.

>>18343141
It'll be clean if you ferment as cold as your yeast will let you, and give it some time at the final gravity to clean up (but not enough that it autolyzes and gives you soapbrew). If you just bring it straight up to the max ABV it can handle at room temp, you'll get all kinds of weird shit, especially if there's any sulfur in your water. Basically you're contending with acetaldehyde (which can give a green apple / cider note in small amounts), diacetyl (which can seem buttery, and can work with some things to give a rum or bourbon-like impression), simple esters, and possibly some sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide, especially if you have any sulfur in your water source, and especially if you use high-grav yeast (like champagne, some kveiks, turbo, etc.)

Some yeast can digest sugars as complex as ribose, but they all prefer mono and disaccharides. The digestion process in a higher ethyl- solution (like in a runaway fermentation) will produce noticeable levels of ethyl-methanoate (rum) and ethyl-ethanoate (pear, nail polish). EC1118 will usually clean up ok, but not in high grav at room temp - for intance, it makes all kinds of nonsense with pasteurized clover honey.

I know they are selling Mt. Dew with alcohol in it now, but my coworker told me it was worse than if you just mixed vodka with regular Mt. Dew.

>its 5.5 standard drinks
It would have to be something like 70% ABV since beers are typically 12.5% ABV. I'm guessing that it was just the alcohol and sugar combination making people have terrible hangovers along with the caffeine making it harder for people to know how drunk they were.

FYI they are still available unadulterated in China of all places where they are colloquially known as the "lose your virginity" drink.

Young girls are just retarded. There was a rich Chinese girl in my town who was like a straight-A valedictorian in high school who got sent to the ER twice for binge drinking in her first semester of college.

I remember drinking 2 of these back to back while playing video games on a shitty laptop, blacked out and woke up to see I had puked directly onto my laptop and fried it, then made it to the bathroom to puke in the shower before passing out. Good times

What a retarded fucking boomer-facebook tier image lmao. Four Loko only had 156mg of caffeine. Far from the 5 cans of Red Bull pictured here.

If you really want to experience an OG 4Loko, just mix a 10+% abv malt liquor with a blueberry/watermelon Red Bull at about 75:25 ratio.

to date the most drunk i've been in my life was when me and another buddy split i belive just 4 fourlokos and had 2 a piece, we might have been drunk already though. ended up passing out in the woods, coming home extremely dirty (we passed out in the dirt) and my gf who i was engaged to at the time ended up kicking me out

They weren't available where I lived so I always wondered if it was just empty hype or a real thing.
