What's the hottest pepper you've tried?

I had a scorpion once. My favorite for cooking is thai chili though. I really disagree that scorpions are 10-20 times hotter than thai chili. I make papaya salad with 10-15 thai chili and eating the entire plate of that at once would be so much more painful than a scorpion. We usually share it between a couple people and then eat other things with it.

Never the actual pepper but I have a sauce that is 40% carolina reaper and it is the hottest thing I've ever ingested, also impossible to adapt to

>> No.18270202

I made a chili with one carolina reaper once, it was hot but not unbearable. The hottest I use regularly is habanero, I use it a lot in my cooking in general because the flavour is so good.

Did a similar thing, too. It was a shame because even in small amounts where it wasn't even that hot it would give me indigestion.

I think the hottest ive had was a salsa made with jalapenos, serranos, and habaneros. Or a habanero hotsauce from a mexican grocery store.

Ive wanted to make my Cincinnati Chili recipe with a really hot one, like a ghost pepper or carolina reaper. I think id cut it in half, discard the innarxs, and then cook it in the chili so each half can be identified and removed easily before serving. Lol

This same exact thing happened to me too. My friend was showing me his pepper garden and told me I could try whatever I wanted. I picked and ate a little tiny pepper I've never seen before and it fucked me up for like an hour.

>> No.18270699

I had a hot chicken sandwich that had Carolina Reaper in the rub. I only ate about half of it. That shit actually hurt, like my face went numb and swelled up a bit.

I'll usually cook with habaneros including the stems and seeds and that usually ends up bretty good. Anything hotter I have a hard time finding in grocery stores. I wish I could find something just a bit hotter. Once you start involuntarily crying, you are past enjoyable, so just underneath that is ideal IMO.

Hottest where habanero/scotch bonnet/madam jeanette and equivalents. okay depending on how they're used.
Hottest I enjoy without context but in a meal are cayenne heat.
Hottest I enjoy on their own are bell peppers and sweet pointed paprikas.

this is true. scotch bonnet and some varieties of habanero are the last ones with good flavor as well as substantial heat. my favorites are thai bird chili in terms of flavor/heat balance. they're good if you harvest them while they're still green as well, slice thinly and serve raw with noodle soups or on sandwiches etc

>>18271431
i had a very small white and purple bhut jolokia in india once that was so hot it got me high, it released a bunch of endorphins. didn't get me sick or anything though. the other two i remember were a tiny round purple one, like half the size of a cherry tomato that was kind of smoky flavored and was very painful, and a tiny (maybe 1cm long) pointed neon orange one which had a fruity flavor and a delayed onset but ended up being the hottest of them all. i'm not sure these peppers even have English names, it was on a permaculture farm/food jungle outside bangalore and the indian guys were having a great time feeding us whiteys super hot peppers and seeing our reactions. the little orange one was so hot it made me jump in the river to get relief.

What's that red, roundish, bumpy/pox-marked-lookin' one that looks like it has a tail? Cuz that one. Friend of mine gave me one. Made hot sauce out of it. It's very, very hot. Definitely the hottest I've cooked with. While I could handle the heat, the amount of it drowns out all other flavours so I don't think I'll use it again. I'll just stick to bonnets/jeanettes/lanterns. They're plenty hot but also tasty.

Is this an American thing? I eat spicy stuff near constantly and never have any poopoo problems but I live in Ameriland now and people here remark about how "hot" food fucks up their insides and/or gives them "the runs" and are generally shocked by the amount of chilli I eat and cook with.

its not the spiciness that's wrecking their guts, often unscrupulous immigrants use spoiled meat and cover the rank taste with spices.
So when unsuspecting humans try to eat Mexican food they get sick and assume it was the peppers because their ass is burning but really that is from their pancreas dumping

If you knew anything about history you'd know that when Colombus brought chilies to Europe, they became an alternative to black pepper which was very popular, and they thus called it pepper.
