European bros... how are we going to cook this winter? I'm thinking of switching to an electric stove before people start panic buying when gas prices skyrocket.

How much energy does an electric or induction stove typically consume a day (for 1 person, I'm an incel)? By my calculations, I could use 1.3 kWh a day for the same price I'm paying for gas (current prices). In other words I could cook something on a 1000 W electric stove top for 1.3 hours, which sounds like a lot and I would probably use way less energy than that. Come to think of it, maybe I should have switched to electric a long time ago.

If my other calculations are correct for easy comparison, 1.3 kWh equals to the energy required to heat and boil 2.07 kg of water from 20 °C.

I would advise against induction.

I specifically said
>electric or induction

Yeah but they're not that different in terms of efficiency. Basically they're both between 70% and 80%, while gas is 40%, which should also be accounted for in price calculations.

way off. 0.38 kWh would boil 2.07 kg water from 20 C
also a 1000 W stove only consumes 1000 W when it's on full power, so you would probably run it on half of that most of the time after the initial boiling. with that being said, I have no idea how it compares to gas

>0.38 kWh would boil 2.07 kg water from 20 C
Huh?

Water specific heat capacity = 4.184 kJ/(kg·K)
Energy required to heat up from 20 to 100 °C = 4.184 / (2.07 * 80) = 0.0252 kJ (negligible)
Water latent heat of vaporization = 2257 kJ/kg
Energy required to vaporize 2.07 kg of water = 4672 kJ
4672 kJ = 1.3 kWh

0.38 kWh would only boil away 0.61 kg
