Have you ever had this? A British coworker told me to find this and try it with aged cheddar or cold meat pies. Not even sure I could get ahold of a cold meat pie if I wanted to, but anyway.

you could probably get a hand pie/meat pie from an african grocery store, provided it's west african

They still have a medieval class system and refuse to break out of it.
They eat like peasants because in their minds they're SUPPOSED to eat like peasants and anyone trying to break out is putting on airs and a nonce

>They still have a medieval class system and refuse to break out of it.
No. Almost every country has silly traditions. The UK it's royalty, and not the only country with a royal family. Rich and poor inequality levels are actually more prominant in the US, and that's a fact:

>They eat like peasants because in their minds they're SUPPOSED to eat like peasants and anyone trying to break out is putting on airs and a nonce
Again no. While a lot of the poor in the UK do eat badly, and do seem oddly proud of the fact, the UK generally eats well and has had increasing standards over the years. It has more Michelin stars per capita than the US.

You're just making shit up. Again, are there some scumbag wealthy families who look down on people they perceive as below them? Sure. But fuck off that doesnt exist in France, Germany, the US, China etc. I've had more shit off poorer people in the UK than the rich, and I know both.

I saw some in the import aisle at my grocery store and picked some up because I'd seen it here. I thought it was pretty good on some dark bread.

yes, i'm not a big fan of pickle myself. has a sort of tart sweetness that i don't really care for. i see it eaten not only with cold food but also hot stuff like sausages. give it a try but don't feel like you need to get a massive jar or even a particular brand name

Lightly toast a slice of bread, lay on slices of cheddar and put it under the broiler for a few minutes until it's melted and starting to brown. Spread some pickle on top.

it is a spiced chutney. If you like mince meat pies, or say chowchow or bread and butter pickles, it's till not a guarantee you'd even like this product.

Original is good. There's a version with smaller chunks that you may want to start on. Both are really good.

OK I admit - Brit cooking is on the whole pretty fucking grim but many of the base ingredients / pickles / etc are actually seriously based.

I, a bong, spent a couple of years eating texas BBQ and I'm not gonna lie - omfg. Superb. However there's so much shit over here in bongland that you guys would love. No shit you'd add cheese to it and call it American.

What really happens is that we don't present it well or call it by a hundred different names given how it's served. We also love to take the piss out of ourselves and let you think we're ferral.

They have a bunch of recipes on their site using it, but they're all kinda stretching to be honest. The combination of the strong taste and chunky texture make it hard to imagine working well in much other than in sandwiches or on the side of cold meat. The only recipe that seems realistic to me is sausage rolls with a line of Branston on the meat.

So is it a chutney? Like my brain says its like a General Greys chutney and that was on a broiled brie round with stuff and toasted baguette at a place i worked at.

>> No.18115798

Yeah, it's a chutney. Pickle and chutney aren't very distinct terms over here, they generally both mean chopped vegetables in vinegar.

it's not as mild as major greys. It's heavy cloves, allspice, and big random chunks. I adore canned chutneys, and always have mango chutney on hand, which I tuck into my chicken salad, but it's heavy ginger and curry flavors. Branston is kind of like pie filling, it is really rich and hint of worchestershire, and less sweet tamarind. It's like A1 plus jam...it's absolutely a strong acquired taste.
