I had a coworker who was some kind of dutchaboo for whatever reason. Claimed to adore the stuff, but also ranted all day every day about dutch food vending machines and urban cycling and tulips.

Really friendly guy though, really enjoyed working with him despite his weird specific obsession. He used to eat the stuff all the time. The way he explained it to me was that it scratched a similar itch to anchovies or pickled peppers etc. Just a strong flavor that blasted his taste buds. Not sure why that specific flavor tickled him so well but I have to imagine theres something mental going on in the background

No. Salty licorice is manufactured as a torture implement. It's used in interrogations. Nobody actually eats it voluntarily. That's just a joke.

Ive only had the Aussie black licorice that we can get over here.
But it's good shit

I recently got into cycling. I use an e-bike to do my grocery shopping now.
Adds some fun and exercise to what was previously a chore.
And I save on gas money.

Quite pricey stuff here.
$7 for 1 package of klene salty licorice (and 36g of sugar!)
Im extremely curious now, but too afraid to fall into another rabbit hole
Is there any health benefits? Why a lot of people like this stuff.

I like black licorice, but only in small quantities as I don't like sweets. Has a nice flavor to it, very interesting, and I can see adding salt to it would be ok.
Unless this is what foreigners mean by black licorice in the first place, I dunno.
Here in the states, we just call it black licorice, and apparently nobody likes it but me. Never tasted salty to me though, so I'm lead to believe you guys are talking about something I've never had.

I like salmiakki. Though, I've mostly only had Dutch dubbel zout type. It is my favorite candy, but it is very uncommon in North America (beyond specialty import stores) and costly online unless you buy a great deal in bulk. Sits well in my stomach and is satisfying to suck on and masticate. I only wish I could try more concentrated, potent salmiakki.

If you're not racing (and thus using the saddle to help you steer), you can tip the seat forward so it's not riding up into your crotch. Also helps with saddle sores. Doing it too far feels like you're not even sitting though.
