LARP as me, a poorfag. I've worked out that until I find work I have approximately $35USD to spend on food a fortnight which works out to $2.50 a day. Assuming I have 2 meals a day - and even that isn't a hard requirement - what meals could I make for $1.25 to $2.50 a plate? Getting a little bored of beans and rice.

I survived on less than that for about a year once. Go to the supermarket and buy the cheapest dry noodles you can find, you can actually use sauces to make a pretty tasty & filling meal. I made the mistake of getting banned from my supermarket, was the only one in town so I was eating bone scraps meant for dogs.

Two years ago you could have struggled and pulled this off. I don't think it's so anymore. You should find a food bank and see what kind of help you can get.

Food bank won’t do him any good unless he’s already got food in it, dumbass. That’s like going to a bank and trying to withdraw money when your balance is empty.

Don't be a fag. These kinds of situations aren't really funny anymore. All of this going on right now is unprecedented. We've never had this many horrible things happening at the same time. A lot of people legitimately need help.

Noodles will be a staple for sure. Any other meals you made?
>>18027877
I'm looking into it but I figure there has to be some meals I can do for that amount. The beans and rice I make works out around $1.25 but I figure there has to be other meals for similar pricing.

Who said it was funny? I’m not laughing? I can relate to his struggle. Telling him to go to some magical place stocked with free food just isn’t realistic. Have you ever watched that show “Friends”?

Sure, when I got tired of noodles I would go to the local bakery and buy bread, donuts, cakes etc that was about to expire. The food was perfectly fine to eat, it’s just that it’s not suitable for selling to customers anymore. I fucked up though and got banned from the only bakery in town.

You've pretty much already found the cheapest thing. Large sacks of potatoes used to be cheap. Eggs used to be cheap, but they aren't anymore. Check for food banks, churches, soup kitchens, etc. Apply for government assistance if you haven't already (although they tend not to approve certain people, it's worth a shot). Remember, there's no shame in asking for help when you need it, or in giving help when you can.

Government assistance has knocked me back, waiting on a letter to find out why. I've not really used potatoes much, but looking it up online I can get 4kg for $8.50 AUD which is around $5.90 USD, that sounds like a pretty decent deal. I'm seeing if there's any cheaper meats around as well.

Yeah, just don't throw away the bones or cartillage. Simmer them in water to make a stock. There's not a lot of calories in there, but you'll get some vitamins and collagen.

You could probably simmer the chicken bones, or the entire legs in the beans.

>> No.18028020

But what's nice about bone-in chicken thighs and whole chickens is all the extra fat you're gonna get out of them. People obsess about the protein content, but all those extra fat calories are very good, and can be quite useful for cooking the starches in. So just think. Don't waste anything.

>> No.18028023

>>18028012
That's a good idea. I was thinking with the thighs, I said drumsticks before, what I do is keep a little meat on them and fry them in some hot sauce to have little winglets for a snack. Might do that instead if that stretches it further.
Found 1kg of dried white beans for $5 as well so that sounds decent.

If you're near the ocean, lake, or river fishing is an option. Pole fishing is not effective. That's sport fishing. Nets and basket traps are how you collect food. But be careful because in a lot of places this is illegal because of its effectiveness.

You have to know what you're looking at, but the biggest danger is when the rabbit has ticks. When you're dressing it just wear gloves, and cook it at a high heat. Most people stew or braise rabbit anyway so it's not tough.

With pagpag you're looking at deadly bateria and potential viruses from other humans, which are far more transmissible than anything from a rabbit.

And rabbits are considered an invasive species throught Australia. They're all European rabbits that were released there long ago and you can kill as many wild ones as you want.

No, the government DID introduce a few diseases to the wild rabbits to kill them after they released them into the wild in the first place. Which didn't work and actually compounded the problem because people were afraid to hunt them for a while. Some time ago there were campaigns to assuage the populace that the meat was safe under most circumstances. The Australian government is particularly stupid, I guess.

Anyway, in case this turns out to be a longer period of unemployment for OP, he should sacrifice a few cut up potatoes to grow in planters or boxes. It's stupid easy to grow potatoes. You can even use a sack filled with soil.
