Are toasters all just fucking scams? I'm trying to find a good 4 slice or long-slice one, preferably long slice so that the face of the toaster with all it's buttons is on the short face instead of the long face. Every single positive review on all of them is glowing about how good they work and look and all that because they're reviewed on arrival. All the negative ones are just the people incredibly mad that theirs is already broken. I think growing up we had the same toaster for 15 years. We replaced it with one that could handle bagels and it lasted 8ish years before it broke. Replaced that with a smaller, cheap one that broke this year and the one we had from when I was kid is back in business because it still works. Now there's this smart garbage that makes them $200+ and I just can't get over how stupid it is shopping for one.
Anyone got a toaster recommendation?

Getting the toast out with a fork is fine if you're careful and use good technique
I unironically used to do it all the time and nothing bad happened to me
These days I can just grab it with my foodservice asbestos hands

I think a toaster oven (get a convection one) makes more sense but it won't toast as fast (due to a larger volume to heat up) so that's the trade off.

modern toasters do not run a current unless the switch is down. The switch is required to complete the circuit.

if the outlet is wired incorrectly the rest of the metal that's supposed to be grounded could actually be live.

It's madness. Basic items that have always done the job should be getting cheaper, but no, they have to maintain their veblen bullshit price point.

It's kind of a myth that putting a fork in a toaster is super dangerous, early electric ones from like the 30s with metal chassis, less safe mains power systems and such were but in a new house with a new toaster in a newer house I doubt it'd ever be a problem

there are a lot of people who treat their possession like shit. if they don't describe in detail how the toaster failed, you should ignore their review.

Just get a toaster oven. There is exactly 0 benefit that a slice toaster offers over a toaster oven, but the latter is easier to use, fits more toast, and can make more than just toast and poptarts

OP, I llike the round boules for sliced sourdough, which does have some long slices. Before I replaced the toasters at my 3 houses, I would have to feed it twice, turning it upside down to toast the 2nd half. Got sick of it. Did my research and found the best....

Oster 4 slice long slot is perfection.
The elements evenly toast along the length of the long slice of bread, even browning. The lift handle, when done, allows you to raise up your toast up higher than the top ~1inch, to fork it out effortlessly or use your fingers without burning.
The pricetag on Amazon is usually mid-range around 50ish. I bought 3 of them at separate times, donating my old toasters. Long slots can be over $100, and it's just not necessary to spend that much.

How long does it take to toast a slice of bread in a toaster oven? I've never had one, but I assume it takes at least a few minutes to heat up to toasting temperature.

.... why don't you just unplug it before putting the fork in?
also with my toaster you just pull the plunger up a little more and it pushes the toast out enough to grab it
are you guys just retarded or do I just have the only toaster in the world that doesn't require an in depth knowledge about electrical currents to operate?

not really. At most the difference is like, 120 seconds. If that makes any difference to you, as Brian Regan once said, you need to loosen up your schedule.
