ITT: people who have worked in a restaurant before share their experiences, ill start:

>line cook
>got out of college last year, planning on culinary school
>work in small town italian place, not that busy except on weekends
>plebbittard dishwasher wont shut the fuck up about "ingredient cubes"
>we get frozen ingredients in the shape of a cube
>this motherfucker wont stop taking pictures to post on plebbit and laugh his ass off to
>everyone is barely tolerating him and his redditspeech (i assume he also posts to r/memes or some shit)
>manager wont fire him cuz "hes better with a knife than you guys"

ive been working with this retard for a few months and i thought he would get tired of it. but no, no matter how much i or the others make clear we dont like him or find him funny, he wont stop.

how do i kill him and hide his body

if youre wondering why i said the dishwasher was good with a knife, its a small town and we have employee shortages so sometimes dishwashers double up as cooks and vice versa

I worked at a Korean BBQ as a dishwasher. We soak the grill pans overnight and scrub it off the next day in a gigantic pot. One day I spilled the pot with the scum water on me, manager gave me a new shirt and I smelt like BBQ for the rest of the day

Once my boss bought a pizza place and told the cooks they could no longer drink during their shifts.
This policy lasted less than a week after every cook told him that they were going to keep their tequila and if he didn’t like it he could get new cooks.

>only one cook in shift but should be fine, not a high season
4am call
>MY FINGER IS IN MEATGRINDERRRRRRRRAAAAAA HELP
>dumb fuck decided to help push stuck thing with a finger and rightfully machine ate it
Remember kids, if it works 99 times, you WILL get screwed on that 1% in the worst moment possible. That leads to my own personal fuck up
>came a bit earlier than usual, put on my whites and checks,
>starting usual morning routine
>steal some coffee from 20l guest coffee filter (working in a big chain hotel), in go 36% pastry creme
>making myself a sammich, making fresh cuts using slicer, chef bartender behind says hi, asking to make a sammich for him as well
>turn my head FOR A BLOODY SECOND to say hi to the guy whilst keeping slicing ham back and forth
>hear a fast BZZT
>OH DOG WHAT DONE
>right hand index finger looks like a pot overflowing with boiling custard but it's my blood instead
>quickly grab a paper towel, two gloves, h2o2, skin glue, do a makeshift bandage, clean everything, finish sammiches, go on a break with bartender
Of course, bandage didn't hold, threw away maybe 10 of gloves filled with blood-soaked papertowels.

>get the lid off the the first one in the stack, it's empty
>well, everyone accidentally forgets to put the dough in a pan every now and then
>grab the next one, empty
>next one, empty
The whole stack was nothing but empty oiled pans.
Like, how do you even fuck up that procedure THAT bad?
The guy who'd done it was a zoomer that didn't really want to be working in a kitchen to begin with, and he was new, and a complete dipshit. To this day I don't know if that was laziness or incompetence. If it was laziness why'd he go to all the trouble of oiling the pans? If it was incompetence, how the shit does that guy not drown in the shower?

When I was a server there was a cook I picked on because I think he was mildly retarded.
I told him my name was Papadopoulos because he couldn’t pronounce it and it sounded funny when he tried.
So I told him if he can’t say it right, then just call me by my nickname “Niggle”. His retard speech impediment made it sound like he was saying “Nigger”.
I also had a game where I’d see how many loogies I could spit on his back before he’d notice and start yelling.
Holy shit that was fun times.

Yep. If you aren't making double what the chef is hourly, you should consider switching restaurants as FOH. My friend made 60k working around 30 hours a week last year. I always wonder if this is different at really upscale level - not like hotel larping but like 300+ to sit down in the chair places but never met anyone that really did that so figured it would just be even more stress for the same hours and wages. I hope more cooks and chef's quit and more restaurants close.
