Most expensive vessel is a Noritake fondue pot we bought online to match the mid century modern pattern of the Noritake china set we got at a thrift store.

First 92 pieces were $150 which is crazy cheap, the fondue pot that was the only piece not with that set was $135...still way ahead of the game for the 100% complete set plus tons of duplicates and party dishes, but it was still hard to justify.

There is a John Boos care and maintenance kit for such an activity. I use olive oil but many people say not to since cooking oil goes through rancidification. It's said this causes the board to have a smell and give food a taste. I'm unable to notice any smell or taste from the rancidity of the oil in my John Boos board. The kit costs 46.77 dollars.

KEK. Posted this before, you reminded me of the time I was making guac for a taco party at home. Had a non-cook family member help prep all the ingredients and used my vitamix then when I went to taste-test it was bitter as all get out. I assumed some of the avocados must have had a rotted spot somewhere inside as can happen with finicky ripening sometimes. I only found out later that that they were being peeled like a tangerine and dropped into the machine WHOLE. So my Vitamix processed 4-6 entire avocados PITS INCLUDED to fine dip-like consistency with no damage to the blades or motor. I heard the loud crunching sounds as it was working but assumed that was normal operation from the onion, peppers, cilantro, etc being blended...

Search for a candle lighter. Should bring up plenty of options top buy.

I've done a little looking, an arc lighter seems to have potential, as do some butane jet flame lighters, but holy shit most of the reviews for cheap ones are, at best, scattershot. I would bet someone on here has a rec. If not, oh well, I'll try some shit out.

No, everything you cut takes a few atoms off, sharpening is the worst. All metal except gold oxidizes and gold is unfit for blades.

Can I count my entire apartment as a cooking item? Then it's $90k (the amount of the downpayment check, I'm not counting interest paid so far, taxes, or transaction fees)

I had it narrowed down to 2 places and 1 had induction because it was a brand new building and 1 had gas because it was a prewar

I went with the prewar because FUCK e-stoves, I want to cook not use a glorified open-air microwave

Ha ha I beat you all, filthy casuals.

I know plenty microwavebro. you can't use proper cookware it has to be special "induction safe" cookware (sound familiar?)
you can't light anything on fire with it
you can't tell how high the heat is
it's just all around a shit way to cook, if I hated cooking that much I'd just order uber eats all the time

coil stoves boil water faster, that doesn't make them good

No, you can't. Also flexing with buying an apartment at peak prices is pretty weird, doubly so on a cooking forum where nobody cares about it. On topic: my most expensive item is probably the smoker, couldn't be arsed to make one myself so I let them scam me.
