17767466 No.17767466 [Reply] [Original]

I want to make biscuits and gravy for dinner tomorrow but I don't know what goes with it. I want a meat and vegetable. I was thinking sausage but I'm not sure what kind would be best. I was just going to use a packet to make the gravy but I will make the biscuits from scratch. What do you like with your biscuits and gravy?

if you don't though idk what youd wanna eat it with. i always ate it as a standalone thing unless i got it as a side at a restaurant. its pretty filling by itself if your gravy is very thick with sausage. idk why youd want sides.

I was also thinking about chicken fried steak with the biscuits, but I don't know how to make it. How do you make chicken fried steak?

>> No.17767537

>>17767516
Take a cheaper piece of steak(I think the preferred cut is cube steak), cut it thin, then pound the shit out of it with a mallet until you've flattened it pretty good. Then you coat it like you would be frying chicken(flour then egg then flour again) then deep fry until crisp. Don't forget to add seasoning to the flour. I would flip them while they're frying after about 5 minutes. They should be done in about 10-12 minutes if memory serves correctly.

I’m with >>17767482 and >>17767508, it’s hard to pair a breakfast dish with a purely vegetable side.
>What do you like with your biscuits and gravy?
The answer to this would be nothing, unless it’s a cup of juice. If I was forced to serve biscuits and gravy as a dinner food, though, maybe I’d pair it with fried green tomatoes or okra? Steamed peas or a pea soup might be good too, gotta think of veggies that wouldn’t be ruined by an accidental dollop of creamy gravy.

Glad to be of help, and now you'll never go back to storebought. Word of advise if you're going to refrigerate any extra gravy: Its fine for about 2-3 days but then the flour/sausage part will start to separate from the grease part. If you're going to store it for longer than a 2-3 days then freeze it.

I got some sausage that was made by the Mormons (not a Mormon, the church itself) and it's the first sausage I've used that had enough fat in it to make a nice bit of gravy with out having to add oil. They have extremely good pork roasts and ham too. They raise their own pigs and process them in their own facilities. I never expected a church to make excellent quality meat.

Hey OP, your pal dipshit here, Biscuits and gravy are a meal all on their own. If you want meat, add sausage into the meal, either in chunks like in your picture, or just as patties on top of open-face biscuits. If you're desperate to add a vegetable, it's pretty much going to be up to preference although again, this meal typically does not pair with any particular vegetable. I'd suggest something solid and sizable with a simple flavor like broccoli. There is no vegetable in the world that goes with gravy on it's own though. Packet gravy is acceptable if you enjoy it. Good luck though! Is this for anyone else or just a personal dish?

If you are making biscuits pic related is what you want. Save yourself a lot of bullshit and just go right to the finish line.

1 stick butter
2 cups white lily self rising flour
1 cup buttermilk

Take butter, cut into pea sized pieces or grate with a big grater. Mix four, butter pieces, buttermilk with a spoon in a big bowl, stirring it like a dozen times and that's it. Flour the counter, dump dough onto it. Dust top with flour. Press it down with your hand to about an inch thick and cut out the biscuits and put them, sides touching, into some sort of pan. Dont roll it or fold the dough or any of that shit. Brush tops with about a Tbs of melted butter. Bake at 475 for about 10-12 minutes.
