First of all, in large cities right now bondsmen are getting people out on 2%. Mainly because with smartphones it's now trivial to track down most bail jumpers. But even if he gets a 10% normal bail it's normally set under 10k for first time drunk drivers. Who doesn't have a grand laying around? I drive a 20 year old Chevy 1500 and I have 4k sitting in a worthless savings account just for things like this.

I've driven drunk probably over 100 times in my life, wouldn't be surprised if it was near 200. Most of the times, it was on backroads taking the 10 minute drive back home very late at night after work (like from midnight to 3AM).
I know it's really irresponsible and if you're absolutely blacked out, it's near impossible to properly drive. But if you're a professional drinker like I was when I was younger, binging literally all day like a true alcoholic, it's honestly not a big deal.

I've gotten pulled over twice. Once near my home and the cop let me go without even bringing up that I smelled. The other time, a cop lit me after following me for about 5 minutes. Made me do a field sobriety test (which I somehow passed) and eventually just let me go because his computer or something was malfunctioning. Guess I got lucky.
