I can think of no greater symbol of man’s mastery over nature than the Costco rotisserie chicken. Eating this bird isn’t just reserved for the rich. At a mere $5, anyone can buy an entire cooked chicken at any Costco location. An incomprehensible amount of infrastructure goes into providing this luxury. Factory farms, genetics research, selective breeding, roads, refrigerated trucks, supply chains, legions of employees. All this so that even the poorest can afford to eat an animal that literally shits out food. They’re even sold alongside out of season fruits that must be grown, harvested, processed, transported, shipped across the world, then stocked on store shelves all before the fruit starts to brown.

The sheer waste, the excess of such a seemingly simple thing is immense, and yet it does not matter. In the morning the chickens are roasted all the same.

How do you like to eat your rotisserie chicken?

For me? It's stripping the chicken down, shredding it, and making chicken salad. I saw another store by me had whole thawed roasters for $2.97 and might go buy 2 or 3 just to keep in the freezer

either breasts are too dry or thighs are undercooked, rotisserie cannot solve this issue
I won't be satistifed with mass prepared meat industry until chicken breasts were cooked edge to edge at 145 and thighs got cooked through to 170

After I've had my fill of chicken while its hot, I like to shred the rest and mix it with chili oil and spices, then eat it cold with bing (chinese crepe).

I like to make chicken soup with the leftovers.

The breasts are way too dry. The genetics of the hens they use are fucked; there's been too much breeding towards lean breasts.

They're good for cheap meat or sandwich filling, but there are better types of fowl.

that sounds pretty good, what spices do you typically use and roughly how much?

For me, it's peeling off all the skin and eating it Cartman style along with the most tender and fatty dark meat. Then using the lean breast meat to make chicken salad

Costco chicken is hot or miss.
Also, they do not use nearly enough salt in the brine, for this reason, Walmart actually has better rotisserie chicken flavor wise

Pretty sure it's a loss leader like their hotdogs, the purpose is to lure people in with $1.50 hot dogs and $5 chicken so they end up buying $100 or more of Chinese crap or food which will expire before they can possibly use it. It works much better at Costco than most stores too, because the membership requirement to shop there and car centric nature of most Costcos discourages poor people going there just for the cheap meal.

Man I would buy rotiseree chickens but I'm a little bitch and cant get over the texture of dark meat chicken. Shit is slimy and gross to me. Would it even be worth it if I'm removing the legs and thighs?

Only time I do it is when walmart has some on the clearance rack for like $4.
$4 for two cooked breats and wings isnt too bad.

It's certainly cheap and good enough for a try and I think the general consensus would be that they are good. And if you're ever in a tavern in the middle ages, you'll know what to order.

Make soup or something with them.
