Ah man this thread reminded me, back in the day when I used to work as a hotel receptionist I tried making sandwiches for myself before work but my shift started at 7 and didn't want to get up earlier than 5:30. Also didn't want to make a sandwich that would be stale by lunch time so this was my go to from sainsbury. 60p pepperami, 30p bread roll, £1 lucozade before the sugar tax/inflation. If I was feeling extra hungry I would get another bread roll. Literally used to eat it like some peasant, take a small bite of pepperami and a big one of bread roll and "combine" it in my mouth, lmao. No one really cared if they did see my doing this weird shit, the only people that worked at that hotel were alcoholic Romanians who didn't really give a shit and probably ate similarly back home.

Kinda miss that life, simpler time despite being dirt poor.

They can make them cheap because they are shite, part of a national tradition of horrible sandwiches.

>There is a feeling which persists in England that making a sandwich interesting, attractive, or in any way pleasant to eat is something sinful that only foreigners do.
>"Make 'em dry,'' is the instruction buried somewhere in the collective national consciousness, "make 'em rubbery. If you have to keep the buggers fresh, do it by washing 'em once a week.''
>It is by eating sandwiches in pubs on Saturday lunchtimes that the British seek to atone for whatever their national sins have been. They're not altogether clear what those sins are, and don't want to know either. Sins are not the sort of things one wants to know about. But whatever their sins are they are amply atoned for by the sandwiches they make themselves eat.
