Definitely not. Being overweight fucks your body up in general and even more so if you're doing an activity that involves repeated contact with the ground. I would say to do a low impact form of cardio (cycling, swimming, elliptical, etc...) and lose some weight before getting into running.
I also don't know how overweight you are so that also makes a difference.
