Deli is a grocery store that also makes its own sausages and sandwiches, right?

>> No.17566297

>>17566283
Any kind of processed meat that's typically sliced thin and put on bread to make a sandwich. Sandwiches are a common lunch food in western culture, hence the term "lunchmeat".

How far away from New Jersey can you get before you can't find these in a grocery store? North Carolina? Indiana? Is it bullshit and these are in stores across the country?
I keep hearing people say you literally can't find it outside of NJ but it's all over the place in Maryland.

>calls them lunch meats/ deli meats
>literally all of that is considered sausage in Germany
You foolish Americans.

>> No.17567251

>>17567100
Besides assorted thin sliced sausages, lunch / deli meat also includes thin sliced portions of non-ground up meat, like hams, roasted hunks of beef, or turkey breast. Americans eat a lot of sandwiches, so it makes sense to have a specific term for the meat you put on a sandwhich.

>> No.17567273

>>17566291
Pretty much; some delis will be more like restaurants with seating areas to eat your sandwiches and the like. Most American grocery stores will also have a deli section, where you can get cut to order meat and cheeses, stuff like sandwiches, wraps, salads, and so on, and might have a seating area too.

>> No.17567299

>>17567251
Not the guy you answered but in Germany the term for stuff like that is "Aufschnitt" which means cut(ted) up. If the meat comes from a sausage it's still called sausage most of the time. Also Aufschnitt refers to everything cut in slices like cheese or less common things.
