17537225 No.17537225 [Reply] [Original]

Costco is facing a problem in Mexico, as some members use their membership to buy desserts and resell in the black market, some even delivering them to people. Apparently that has created problems for other Costco shoppers, as they're finding the dessert section empty, so Costco has limited the amount of desserts a single member can buy at any given day.

What do you think about this? I thought it was kinda neat for the ones doing the reselling, as sometimes we just don't wanna face the music and dance, but it does create problems for others.

In the comment section, a lot of people complain that Costco desserts and cakes are too sweet.

Mexico and South Americans in general are in the midst of a sugar addiction apocalypse. It functions like a hard drug in their bodies, extremely addictive. Absolutely destroys their metabolism, gives them diabetes and poor oral hygiene. Sugar is incompatible with their genetics.

Seems like the same basic idea as ticket scalping. How much are people saving by using the resellers, because they sure as hell aren't taking a loss on buying cakes to sell them to others. They might find that getting the membership and buying the cakes at the store might cost them less.

Costco doesn't make much money on stuff like that. And if someone is buying stuff to resell to other people who are never going to buy a membership it ends up being worse for them.

Some items are sold at cost or even at a loss to lure people into the store to buy other more profitable items. No idea if cakes are one of them but if the store is constantly sold out on cakes normal customers might get annoyed at not being able to purchase something that should be in stock.

Watch the doc El Susto, I didn't like how it really focuses in on "coca cola bad", but its clear that Mexicans get way too much sugar from plenty of places besides coke.

Asians have lots of sugary and processed foods as well. I'm convinced they're only as thin as they are because they're the only race that still shames eachother hard for being fat, and this is slipping.

I know East Asians suffer from problems linked with medical obesity at much lower BMI than Caucasians do, seen that study. That biological difference might be upstream of their culture of anti-fatfuckery.

They love to do this shit, but I don't understand what compels the other Mexicans to buy whatever shit some Mexican is selling out of their house or off the roadside. like for Valentine's any Mexican neighborhood has these old dudes who buy a shit ton of roses and hang out outside of gas stations and the like selling them, but instead of buying wind-blasted gasoline-scented $20 roses from Jorge I could just go to the same florist Jorge did and get the same roses for their original $16.
But they do it, so somebody is buying it.

I went to visit family in Mexico for a week. They live in a small rural town. They had sweets everywhere you looked and they would keep offering them to me.

I hate Costco. I was trying to buy a 12 pack of muffins, put them in my cart, and when I was shopping some random employee came up to me and said "You know you need to buy two of those, right? You can't buy just one."

>> No.17541728

No I was working at a Costco for a bit, they do that to absolutely everyone and will usually either make the person run all the way across the store for another one or just have them put it back. I don't understand it at all. Also if you don't match the picture on the card they will embarrass you by yelling they need a supervisor who will take the card, walk away, then come back to tell you that they'll let you slide this time.

Outside of the chickens and food court I’d be surprised if anything at Costco is like this anymore. Prices are up and quality is down, their gas used to be notably cheaper than other stations but now it’s about the same (and no it’s not other stations lowering due to competition). Meanwhile the CEO salary got a massive bump while regular employees got a mini COLA. I’m down to maybe 4-5 regular items and I’m actively looking for better sources so I can cancel my membership.

That's....
Not how cakes work.
They're not great cakes obviously but you can't fucking make a normal cake with corn syrup, it has different physical properties than sugar.
