It's not about that. The adverts are a reflection of society. They are carefully shaped to appeal the masses, and to some extent also to steer the masses in a certain direction.
When the adverts stop showing white nuclear families dressed modestly and doing wholesome things it's because society as a whole has moved away from that.
For the record, I don't even own a TV but I still cannot fully escape advertising. I see it on this very site in fact. As well as on the sides of city buses, the walls of buildings, the magazines when I stand in line at the store...
And even if you're absolutely certain that the adverts don't affect you, they still affect millions and millions of people around you. You're not some fucking enlightened stoic just because you ignore them. They still push in on your life indirectly.
