How do I stop being a picky eater, /ck/? Is the only way truly just forcing myself to eat this stuff until it stops tasting awful?

For a start, just because you don't immediately like something doesn't mean you dislike it, it's just foreign to you. So start by changing your mindset. Secondly yes, just keep trying these things over and over until they aren't foreign to you anymore. I didn't like sun dried tomatoes, feta, olives or dill when I first had them and now I will eat anything that contains either of those ingredients.

My friend was staying with me for a while to do some fruit picking. I was making chilli con carne for nachos one night and I was telling my friend what was in it and I said beans to which he informed me he doesn't like beans (he is fussy as fuck), I told him that's just too bad because the beans were already in it. He started to sulk so I got annoyed with him and handed him half a loaf of bread and said here's your dinner. He fucking got in his car and left for 3 - 4 hours. Then when he came back he went straight to bed. Next morning we had get up about 5am and go meet some guy. He didn't say a word the entire time. When we stopped to meet the guy I went and bought us a drink and he wouldn't touch it and still wouldn't talk. I just kept acting like he wasn't sulking and he was seething. Ended up missing the guy then he eventually talked to me. I think it was a good 12 - 13 hour silent treatment sulk. All because of some beans, little bitch.
>Mfw the entire time

>Is the only way truly just forcing myself to eat this stuff until it stops tasting awful?
It doesn't taste awful, and I mean that sincerely as someone who used to be a picky eater. It doesn't taste awful, you are just not accustomed to the taste and you have an unhealthy reliance upon comfort and familiarity. As soon as you open your mind to new experiences, you will be able to appreciate the tastes for what they are and you may enjoy them.

The best way to overcome this is to cook for yourself, have fun with the process of creating something and enjoy the benefits of the end. Start with dishes that use modest amounts of these ingredients but which sound tasty to you, and you will understand how they can have their place within a meal. After a while doing this you will start to actually like those things to some degree. Also this guy said it pretty well
>>17472581
>For a start, just because you don't immediately like something doesn't mean you dislike it
It's your mindset. You experience something which doesn't immediately register into a category of things you like and you become averse to it. A possible sign of autism but not insurmountable.

>> No.17472957

>we accommodate when cooking, haven't found a good gluten free puff pastry recipe (homemade/store bought)
>suggest they eat gluten pastry, they declines as bowels
>suggests he makes the GF pastry, declines

GF pastry is worse then normal pastry (leathery, unpuffed).
Will eventually use regular pastry or stop cooking pastry dishes for him.

Unless you're actually allergic to something, just eat it. You might learn that you actually like it and what you had before, that turned you off of it, was just bad.

I used to not like tomatoes on sandwiches or most things and the same with mushrooms. Not exactly sure what changed, but I had a few things with them that were really good and now I like them. I won't always go out of my way to ask for tomatoes on a sandwich or anything, but if it's there I won't take them off.
