17411016 No.17411016 [Reply] [Original]

So I decided to channel my inner American and prepare hot dogs tonight. But I believe we never settled if dogs should be boiled or fried. So /ck/, which one is it?

I’ve boiled, fried, and grilled dozens of times each and I still don’t know. Boiled is a good way to taste quality weenies but fried up w butter or chargrilled are prolly better. Gotta split them if you go pan fried

The best way to cook them is on hot dog rollers. If you don't have a fire to roast them over then a hot pan is the next best thing.

It is difficult to fuck up a lovingly crafted hot dog. A boiled quality hot dog will have great taste and texture. It is more difficult to surpass a grilled hot dog. However, I have a secret I will share with you tonight OP. I know it was said earlier in the thread but this is wizardry and it deserves to be repeated.

Split that motherfucker down the middle and pan fry it in butter until seared.

You'd be fucking surprised. And I'm not the only one. Most of the Swiss I know here have dealt with that at least once. Admittedly, I live in a city where the average IQ is equal to that of a jar of warm mayonnaise so I've gotten it multiple times, a few of them from the same fucking mouthbreather who, inexplicably, can't remember that Sweden and Switzerland are two totally different places. I swear to fuck, if she knew Swaziland existed, she'd ask me why I'm not black.

Lmao I am nordic. Some homeless dude came up to me in LA and asked if we where Swiss. We said no, but later probabyl realized that he meant Swedish. Then we listened to his tale about how he was robbed, and had now equipped his bike with a spear point to defend himself. Also he asked for money, we didn't give him any but he was honestly a nice dude, so I kinda regret it. Must be really hard surving in a third world shithole like that.

Have you guys tried to steep it in stock?

Add a bulion cube to water in a pot, bring it to a boil until its dissolved, remove it from the heat and dump in your hot dogs, and let them steep. Its pretty good.

You can also add some whole peppercorns, onion and bay leaf to the water.

there's two basic categories when it comes to having your basic grocery store dog at home as just a regular meal
microwaved or pan cooked

grilled is the next step up and is typically for large gatherings of people

Grilled is disappointing. You feel like you're eating a bad sausage. Hot dogs are trash food for trash eating, and the full experience can only be had by boiling or microwaving. Or sometimes cold with a dipping sauce.
