17334246 No.17334246 [Reply] [Original]

What's the best country in the world for beer?

IMO I would say
>Belgium
>Germany
>United States
in that order. Belgium for the absolute best quality and longstanding tradition, Germany for tradition and mastery of a certain style, and the US for sheer variety, where you can find every possible style of beer no matter where you are

>> No.17334251

honorary mentions as well to the UK and Czechia

>> No.17334255

For the new styles (craft or what not) and variety definitely US and UK. While Belgium, Germany or Czech Republic do and always had good beers they're way behind the craft beer revolution.

I've been to many craft/artisanal breweries and only a fraction of them made decent beer. Often, they try to hide their inexperience in beer brewing by drowning the beers in hops aromas. Once the novelty wears off you'll realize that such beers often lack in body, have off-flavors etc.

I went to a few craft breweries in the states and they were all pretty excellent.
IPAs are vile, though.

I don't get people who have massive lists of shit they hate, or can't stand an entire variety of food or beverage. Especially beer, which while it has a bitter taste to it, there's so much nuance and rich flavours out there. Mind you, most of the generic shelf stuff (budweiser, 1664, Heineken) tastes kind of bad

Well, I think they hold up. I haven't been able to find quality close to Tree House and Hill Farmstead. And I try lots of new beer as often as my wallet allows. Alchemist seems to be stuck in their ways and a little behind. New breweries pop up all the time with incredible beer. Gotta pay respects to the granddaddy brewers. We wouldn't be here if it weren't for them. I'm excited to see what the upstarts move forward with. I hope the haze obsession ends soon. So many incredible styles of beer that aren't being made and people focus on fruit juice tasting DIPAs. It isn't as profitable for small breweries to explore brown ales, stouts, etc. when everyone goes nuts for IPA. Tons of new breweries make bad IPAs but it's easy to cover it up for people who aren't well-versed, they think it's good.

Come in for a visit sometime! Budweiser is usually cheaper than 'Gansett, if you'd believe it. Usually goes, Bud, Miller, Rolling Rock 4-5$ and 'Gansett for 6-7$. A lot of AB is brewed in NJ, so I get why it's cheaper. I got a pic of a beer menu by a bar near me but I've seen it plenty of places

You can make plenty good cheap beer with adjuncts. Any 30 rack lager is gonna have rice or corn, but I'll still take a Coors Banquet any day.

I don't get your point. Gansett' is good for the price it is in. Same with Hamm's. But I didn't write "high quality". Have a 'Gansett, Neighbor.
