me too :)

I was at covidmart the other day and couldn't get any fresh chicken or beef, but when I got to the SPAM aisle they had all the different varieties. Normally I just get a half tin of reduced sodium, but it was payday and with all the other shelves bare atm I piled up on all the SPAM. I finally have the spicy, the bacon, the turkey, the teriyaki. I bought em all and a bunch of people saw me do it and idgaf.

someday, SPAM is what's going to separate the zombies from the survivors

Gonna share a recipe my dad used to make for me and my brother as kids. You take a can or two of spam and use the cheese shredder on your grater to shred the spam. Fry the spam in a pan until your desired level of fried then put to the side while leaving the grease in pan. Take a can of red kidney beans and a small amount of liquid from the can and fry in the leftover grease until your desired level of fried. Then mix the spam and beans into a pot of instant rice and enjoy!

I cut it into 1/4in wide strips and drop it in my ramen the last minute or so of microwaving. It gets a little rubbery if you drop it in at the start of cooking, but comes out perfect if it’s closer to the end. I start with boiling water from the kettle of that makes a difference, keeps the noodles more firm

i actually tried spam in my quest to build a workable food storage pantry. i was looking for something short of being a prepper, more like a durable pantry that woulds hold plenty of food for times of weird shit.

the conclusion i came to was i needed to find some canned food items that i would actually eat occasionally for rotation purposes. i hate the idea of buying as bunch of shit to horde, then eventually having to toss and replace it.

what i found is i dont like most canned foods enough to eat them regularly. so i did some experimenting and SPAM was one of the items i found that i could use on occasion. so i buy those 10 can cases at costco to stock up and my natural use of spam slowly depletes the stock. as the SPAM stack dwindles i occasionally buy another case to rotate in. i dont eat a ton of spam or anything. maybe 1 can a month. but with rotaton that means at any given time i have a stockpile of 20-30 cans on standby and they are all relatively fresh. again i am not doomsday prepping here. just trying to keep a pantry that can keep my household fed for a month or so if it becomes difficult to get groceries.

the other surprise i found was corned beef hash. like spam, its dense and lasts a long time. also like spam, i will naturally go through 1 or 2 cans a month making it possible to have a decent sized stash of it that requires no effort or maintenance other than buying a few cans to rotate in from time to time.

my most common spam preparation is sliced thin, fried with eggs. its also really good with ramen or fried rice. or cubed and sauteed with veggies and sauce, served with steamed rice.

any spambros have a deli style spam sandwich that works?
i have tried it burger style like on the OP pic and it sucked.

its ok on a grilled cheese i guess. but a good cold spam sandwich would be handy. i have tried to just make a ham sandwich but with thin sliced spam. and it sucked. is there a secret?

Two cans of spam for three people including a dad sounds like normal dad cooking to me anon. The sodium's way too much but that's par for the course for spam. Amountwise that's about right.

>> No.17339239

I do that on a larger scale. My mom ends up almost a can a week for cooking, using it in chinese food because she doesnt like prepping meat. Spam really is different from most canned food. I used to think it was just my mom knowing how to use it but it's nice to learn another weirdo also likes spam but not other canned food.
