The USDA is captured by the Corn Refiners Association which is made up of gigantic ag companies like ADM and Cargill. Just those two alone make about 50 billion dollars profit a year. the CDDR (Chronic Disease Risk Reduction Intake) for both males and females is 1800mg
this is defined as the upper limit for 97.5% of healthy adults, above this limit you start to increase your risk of chronic sodium related disease
it should be noted that the american heart association recommends no more than 2300mg per day and an ideal limit of 1500mg

the meal you have according to tacobells website is somewhere in the 1900mg range, so you should either limit or eliminate all other sodium intake for the day or only eat things with that warning sparingly
unless you want to hammer your kidneys and heart

kek

I used to live in an area where farmers had banners saying "Rural Revolution" or some nonsense with a wall of text and stop sign saying "Government: BACK OFF." One time I asked the farmer I was buying honey off of about the signs and then told him I bet he doesn't want the government to back off the subsidies. He turned red and start getting really angry and telling me how farmers are the life blood of the country and blah blah blah

What a ridiculous mindset by so-called small government people who claim to be fiercely independent yet rely wholly on handouts.

Your body has no way of storing sodium, so excess just gets excreted out. Meanwhile some sodium is essential for bodily function. The conclusion? You'd have to be eating a LOT of salt for it to matter. Like 20g/day or more. You'd get sick of the taste of salt long before it started harming you. Remember they used to use salt as a preservative in the olden days and heart disease wasn't an issue.

>> No.17166538

>>17166508
Most farms are family owned but they're generally small operations, sorta like mom n pop stores versus Walmart. 1 Walmart can do as much business as 100 small stores, so absolute values are meaningless.

>Americans like sugary garbage
And Vlad Tepes liked putting people on spikes, it doesn't make it a good thing. Ultra processed food is a huge issue that needs addressing. I understand that longer shelf life means a more stable food supply chain but it's costing more money in healthcare at this point.

>> No.17166603

Japanese use a lot of salt, yet they have some of the longest lifespans. Why? Sodium on its own is not that much of a concern. Healthy kidneys filter out excess sodium quickly. But, if you combine high carbohydrate intake and high sodium intake, then heart disease is the result. Both sugary foods and those easily broken down and digested (like potato starch) will fuck up your blood pressure. High blood pressure then damages kidneys, so they don't filter sodium as efficiently as before, and this is when high sodium becomes an issue.

People keep coming close and missing the mark due to distractions. Yes corn lobbyists are powerful because they have corn industry money, which is powerful itself. But also the agricultural industry is powerful, even more so. But more than that, the food multi-industry complex. And above that, all US production infrastructure and captured production by US Imperialism abroad. Because production drives provision of all our needs and wants. It literally determines life and death. What's important is are we, the masses, the ones in control of said industry? The answer is no. Very few private owners have this power, yet the production process itself is maintained for the public interest. This is incompatible at its root. Food (and all other production) should be in ownership of the whole of the country's people, if only to avoid overproduction crises. Lobbyists are only necessary to mitigate losses to those private owners. Once production not only serves the people but is determined by the people, lobbying (and its corruption, lies, and control) fades away into obsolescence.

The sugar in this meal is far more harmful to the individual as the first Anon says. The salt is negligible since you pee excess. But power concentrated into the hands of the few, system-wide, causes nonsense like the ad to propagate, which in turn creates a cultural movement to justify the lies of those lobbyists (on behalf of the owning class).
