Whatcha drinking?

Ordered this Dutch gin which is supposed to be fantastic for the price (23 euros 0,7l) as well as some Cointreau. Gonna make White Ladies and I don't know what else, we'll see.

Edradour 10 Distillery Edition with a few drops of water, its really hitting the spot after my first time making deer chili.

Friend sent me a gift card for christmas early so I'll soon be heading out to the shop to expand my knowledge of Brandy, Armagnac and Rum since most of my most desired Scotches are either unavailable or being allocated by faggy raffles and social media bandwagoning.

Brandy is just St. Remy VSOP, the Armagnac will be Chateau de Tariquet 15 Cask Strength and the Rum will probably be El Dorardo 15. I'm hoping the alleged Glendronach 15 arrival will be an old batch from before it got gutted by Brown Foreman. No way I'm spending $200 on the 18 after it stopped being twenty something. If those fail it will be a toss up between Glenallechie 15, Balvenie 15 Single Barrel Sherry and Glen Scotia 15. Might dip into a Costco to see if theres anything special/decently priced.

Looking for good whiskey cocktails, lads. Love whiskey sours, didn't care for manhattans, love Irish coffee, jack and coke or a boilermaker when I'm feeling basic and just want to get drunk. Did some Irish carbombs for fun but wasn't much of a cocktail and I don't like Guinness. What should I try next? Seems like I'm a sucker for cream.

>> No.17130913

>>17130396
white/brown/black russian probably. you can substitute Guinness in a carbomb with basically any Porter/Stout/Brown Ale and be fine. no its not a cocktail because you're supposed to slam it before you have time to taste it. theres also plenty of good cheap Irish whiskey, single malt or otherwise that will do fine instead of Jameson. although I'd generally stay away from Teeling and Proper Twelve. Powers Gold Label and Paddy's are decent options and should be common enough to find hanging around.

whiskey sours are best with rye. my personal favorite is knob creek, I buy a handle of that shit and make a couple whiskey sours a week. it's 100 proof and hits like a truck, though, so if you want to have more than one in an evening be careful. Jack won't make a very good sour.

You can use rye for old fashioneds, but maybe try with regular bourbon first. the ingredients in an old fashioned won't moderate the bite of rye as well as the ingredients of a sour. Jack won't make a very good old fashioned either, though, you really do want bourbon flavors for those.

Jack is best as a mixer in really simple drinks, stuff like Jack & coke. If you're making something with more character, pick a more interesting whiskey.
