I'm on my own this year, so I'm planning a 2-3 day solo feast for Yule.

So far I am planning beer, mulled wine, cinnamon rolls, some good bread with butter, a few nice hard cured meats, a few types of hard cheeses.

For major meals I'm not decided, but leaning towards making a beef or lamb stew, pork back ribs, and some kind of roasted meat - either beef, pork, or duck.

Raw oysters
Caviar
Stinky cheese
Sourdough bread
Chamagne, prosecco, and scotch
That is all.
The women in my family have ruined holidays with their wreaths, trees, way too many gifts, hectic schedules and complicated feasts. So much garbage and clutter and dishes to wash. It's not fun anymore and I truly hate the holiday season. The simplicity of oysters and bread and cheese is just as important as the flavor.

I made a 2kg tiramisu for my new workplace last week, to share with everyone.
Closer to Christmas I'll buy a bunch of cheeses, meat and fruit and have a consistent platter to munch on over the whole break

Explain.
Do they have a tree in every corner? A wreath on every door? Inside and out?
>hectic schedules
Can’t you just ignore their ramblings, or plan something better for them? You sound like you need more eggnog, bud.
>complicated feasts

Discounter ones are often dry and brittle to increase shelf life. They are supposed to be pretty moist and dense and taste way better that way. Also traditional ones do not have flour in them, the cheap ones usually do.

used to be the same in my family until my grandma died. now it's just bread, cheese, pickles and olives, wine, nuts, and then a late and light dinner like mussles or clams with more bread and wine. really nice imo

Sounds chill. Spending time with family is so much better when not re-living dish pit and line cook days at the same time.
