I'm 25 and I've never been at a Thanksgiving table with macaroni & cheese, but supposedly this is super common. Am I out of touch or is it not as common as they say it is?

While not a leaf, I am a northern enough guy to know only trashy people/southerners eat mac & cheese for thanks giving.
That said though, i dont think its unwelcome at the table, so long as its made proper and isnt some sort of kraft dinner or velveeta sort of bullshit.

I never saw it in the northeast but literally everyone had it at holiday meals in the south. I love mac and cheese and would bring it if I attended thanksgiving or any holiday meals, which I do not

Yeah I get that. Honestly pretty sure mac n cheese became a thing to bring so that people who can't cook could contribute something. Also probably there to help appease picky children.
It's not like mac n cheese goes with turkey that well anyway.

I'm not letting this bait stand, you can butcher that recipe all you want but you have to admit there is a cheese component to that dish.

1) there should be breadcrumbs all crunchy on the top of the mac n cheese
2) sweet potato casserole should be served with dinner, despite rather clearly being a dessert
3) turkeys are stuffed with rice
follow these principles and you will always enjoy the thanks giving feast

The only time I encountered Thanksgiving with macaroni & cheese was back when I was single just a few years out of college, black coworker invited me to his house. Never thought of mac&cheese as a holiday meal side, and still don't.
It was an awkward experience which lead to a series of discoveries that revealed I am actually a much better cook that I thought I was... I was comparing myself to TV cooking shows and didn't realize most people make shit from boxes and packaged frozen things.
Also, his niglets were so hyper to have a guest there that I got pummeled repeatedly.

Never heard of mac and cheese at a turkey day table.

Generally mine is turkey, stuffing, rolls, artichoke bread, candied yams, cranberry sauce, homemade potato salad, gravy. Then someone else generally brings something and dessert.

I've lived in the south (Alabama, South Carolina, Virginia), the north (Pennsylvania, New York, Maine), and the west (Nevada, California), and I have never in my life seen mac & cheese at a Thanksgiving dinner.

Sameposting to add that, now that I think of it even more, I'd probably LOVE a good mac & cheese at Thanksgiving. It seems to fit nicely with the theme for the rest of the traditional sides.
