What is the best type of tomato to get in the winter? None of them are ripening naturally, I gotta imagine one is better than others

Depends on where you are and whether there's any shipped in from where they do come into season during your winter.
If you live in Brisbane you can get them all year, different local varieties ripen throughout the year, and they send them up from Victoria during the summer

new england so probably mexico or chile. either way the ie. beefsteaks I normally enjoy in the summer are flavorless in the winter - even when I let them ripen for days till they're red. They harvest them green which I assume prevents flavor development that would otherwise happen in natural ripening. I imagine one type of tomato survives this best

I'm in Ireland and over winter the tomatoes we can get are all too firm and a bit pale and not sweet, I think they mostly come from greenhouses here or in Holland. Don't bother with them too much, can make or buy good preserves like relish or chutney and pasata. If you want fresh tasty tomatoes in winter you'll have to move
