A quick wiki search tells me that the words surrounding capsicum plants are totally fucked up throughout western languages. Next to none are consistent; english in different countries isn't totally consistent either. In germany (where apparently OP ordered), but not switzerland or austria, sweet pepper is called paprika, banana pepper is called pepperoni, hot peppers are called chili.
