The disappointing thing is you can still do things in that space. Changing the glaze, or the dough, or things like that. There's variation there that can be enjoyable, but they tend to just add more to it. So fancy donuts tend to have a lot of shit on it that doesn't really work that well with the underlying product.

I feel the same way about sandwiches where the bread is secondary to everything on top of it and so they drown it in excess stuff and the bread is incidental.
