once you get a feel for cooking and certain ingredients you just measure from the heart. Measuring off instinct is a very hard thing to teach or communicate to other people. I think this is why so many recipes online get some measurments so wrong. Mostly not including enough salt or putting a quarter teaspoon of anything in a big dish

Dunno where you are from but here in Finland both weight and volume are used in baking recipes.
Butter is usually in grams as half a kilo package is most common with premade marks on wrapping foil that divide it to 10 pieces thus 50g each.
Wet ingredients like oil, milk, buttermilk is measured in volumes, say 2 desilitres.
Dry ingredients like flour, sugar, baking powder, soda, cinnamon etc. are measured in volumes - desilitres, table- and teaspoons.
Never have I seen baking recipe that calls for 150g of flour or something.

hint is equal to sprinkle but higher than drop, smidge is over a pinch but lower than a drizzle, a bit can range anywhere from pinch-dash or drop-drizzle because liquid elements are always worth more, see: fucking up pancake batter with too much flour vs fucking up pancake batter with too much milk/egg/etc

Canadian here. Never heard of a metric cup. Most measuring cups, spoons, and the like have the American "cup" or "tea/tablespoon" measure along with a mL measure stamped on them. Same goes for our speedometers.

We're too close to the US to completely avoid their stupid measures but it's slowly getting less prevalent since they don't teach it in schools. School is metric only.

Not since the mid 00s. Reintroduced imperial (they’re your units too, leaf) to the curriculum sometime around 2005 I think it was.

Realistically, converting to metric was a giant waste of time for Canada anyway. 98% of international trade Canada does is with the US, and the ONLY reason Canada switched in the first place was to smooth trade relations with the US as the US switched to metric around the same time. Which clearly didn’t happen. It would be in your best interest to just relearn your miles and ounces. Most leafs use feet and pounds for most things anyway.

Do either of you even live in Leafistan? None of what you're saying is true.
>t. 28 year old who was in school all through the 2000s and was never taught a lick of imperial
Other than legacy shit like recipes, or the trades (since you idiots can't seem to learn metric and keep passing on your shit measurement to your apprentices), metric is used or both are used with imperial being in smaller text.

Americans are using metric for anything remotely scientific now. It's literally just old fucks in industry who can't fathom something if it isn't in relation to a body part who are keeping imperial going.

Additionally, people continuing to use imperial in the home doesn't mean it's being taught in schools. We only got the metric system fully in '85, plenty of old people didn't bother learning it so everything gets passed down. Will take some generations to mostly phase out.
