Fuck bros whiskey is good. I always drink vodka, rum, gin, tequila and brandy

But fucking whiskey. Now that's good shit. Tried it earlier, best drink I've ever had.

Shame about the price tag though, i get the same amount in gin for 2 dollars

Jack Daniels isn't though, so why are you posting it? Not even being a snob, lots of other generic whiskeys are good, like Jim Beam, but Jack Daniels tastes like shit.

Jack Daniel's tastes like shit but at least it shows up with the shitty flavour in force. Jim Beam literally tastes like they had something decent and cut it down so much that nothing interesting is left. I'm also aware they're both 40% but Beam is about as bold as elevator music. Jack shows up to the flavour competition and is laughed off stage, Jim never bothered to show up

try jameson, probably my go to whiskey.
Remember damn near all american whiskeys and definitely everything called bourbon is made with mostly corn, even american rye is like half corn, and corn whiskey is sweet and awful and gets you more hungover, go for euro whiskey, or jap whiskey.
There are a few american ryes with little to no corn, whistle pig is great but super expensive and george dickel is decent and cheap, rye tastes super strong though i cant drink it without a chaser

I hate to say it but Irish whiskey is just not worth getting into if you're not an Irish person living in Ireland who has national pride attached to it. Their blended whiskey like Jameson is fine for a mixer but the finer stuff is just a shittier version of scotch. Not much flavor, very plain tasting. The best I've had is Redbreast 12 but even then, it's good but not as good as a similarly priced scotch

Got to try this out a couple months back. Was my first bit of whisky I bought for myself so I kind of spoiled myself with this. Only problem is now the fucking brown fellas at the liquor store keep telling me they have more Hibiki in stock expecting me to buy a marked up bottle every other week.

This is /ck/, bro.
If something costs more than I want to readily spend on it, it’s overpriced.
If I don’t like something as much as other people seem to like it, it’s overrated.
And if something has a much larger-than-average sales volume, it’s shit.

this is mostly true, but some of the reason behind Irish being so light is the distillation. Double and Triple distillation are a significant difference, but yet even then putting both next to even a 40/43% "supermarket" single malt around 10-12 year old Scotch and the difference is night and day again.

If you dont want to anaylze your drink as you enjoy it then you will probably favor Irish. If you are seeking the experience of the total range of smell and taste you will no doubt side with Scotch. Although, you can find some single grain Scotch or probably something from the Lowlands that are closer to the Irish profile. Allegedly the real Japanese whiskeys are generally in that vein, but even more gouged than even the most hyped Scotch.

It is simply a regional spelling difference. Irish prefer whiskey, most others prefer whisky.
murrika spells it whiskey in every day use but legal documents spell it whisky.

>> No.16793847

>>16789672
For the most part I agree, but there are some good Irish pickups. Bushmills 10 generally cheaper than 10-12 year old Speysides and has the same flavor profile. Connemara is similarly priced to Islays, is just as good, but is a completely different take.

Red breast has to be the biggest scam going. It should be the similarly priced as Bushmills 10 in terms of flavor, but it costs literally double. It's ridiculously expensive compared to scotch; it is not even close to par with Kilchoman / Mortlach / GlenDronach / Port Charlotte in that price bracket.

>>16791429
Posts the second most recommended irish whisky, which is even more expensive and is just as lacking in flavor.

>> No.16793852

>>16791455
Same price? Lagavulin.
Laphroaig is usually $15 cheaper though, which puts it in a price range I'm more comfortable with. It's outclassed by Ardbeg though.

Prices are not stable across regions. Or US states. If you actually want priced based recommendations you're going to have to post a link to a store you can buy from.
It actually causes huge arguments here over which whiskies are good or bad, and is often overlooked as the reason.

Majority of IW are blends and there are still relatively few distilleries. Used to just be like 3 major ones but there are more now. I don't think you can really go wrong, it is all about the same really in that there aren't extremes of high nor lowend. Jameson, Tullamore, and bushmills should be tried first to get a feel, then whatever else is available if they were enjoyable.
