Have you tried making kvass before? And how did it turn out?

Why would I drink anything with a lower abv than fucking miller lite?

I did, actually. I had it at work when my manager made a big deal out of it. I kind of liked it, and then the recipe was so easy that I went ahead and tried it myself.
Pretty okay. I don't know if I'd say I like Kvass, but it's definitely a distinct flavor and is a fun weird drink.

How did you make it?

I'd probably like it but no, seems like too much work in my opinion. I used to make milk kefir and it wasn't so bad because as soon as you make it once all you have to do is add more milk. Whereas if you drink all the kvass, you have to make more kvass.

Some standard recipe. It was water, sugar, rye bread, and some fruits, mostly raisins. Boil it for some time then bottle it and let it sit a few days.

Because it is refreshing, you degenerate alcoholic.

Because some of us aren't piteous alcoholics. you don't drink kvass for the alcohol, bonehead

>> No.16783464

I made it once by googling what it was made out of and trying to replicate it using toasted rye bread and baker's yeast. I liked it a lot when it was chilled, but it triggered all the slavs on kc /int/ who complained about me doing it wrong. Evidently you're supposed to add something called kvas concentrate.

Alcohol should be an incidental ingredient in a refreshing, tasty fermented drink, not the sole reason for consuming it.

>Evidently you're supposed to add something called kvas concentrate.
Looking up the concentrate, it's just rye malt extract and yeast syrup that you add to water. I don't see how that could be traditional in any sense.

I agree with you, but telling a bunch of russians on the internet that you didn't use it will make them all mad.

What if you're trying to reach the right balance of flavor and inebriation because the only way you can escape the crushing existential anxieties that plague you every day is to get drunk?

>> No.16783913

I very much doubt the Russian babushkas cared about kvas concentrate. It would be like adding Knorr cubes to a dish because Marco Pierre White says to, even though he doesn't do it himself.

>> No.16783998

>>16783913
Then try telling them that. Like I said, they all got mad about it.

Go make a thread on /int/ if you don't believe me.

Made beet kvass before, but that was more like brine than beer, not bad but not for everyone

Yes. I made a gross lite beer that blew up in several of my friends' refrigerators.
