It was always the McDonald's of sub sandwiches: "good enough" for a decent price. Now that the $5 promotion has long ended it's cool to hate it. All big pizza chains are flop. Not only do they become slaves to shareholders, but they have some of the most difficult logistics on top of that once they reach a certain scale. The economics of competing in this day and age of DoorDash and Uber Eats is also eating into them hard. Pizza places used to have hard delivery boundaries and now they can't anymore -- it was about the only thing most of america could get delivered just a few years ago.

Domino's basically looked back a few years ago and said "How can we re-adjust our internal and external supply chains to compete and offer better quality", and in some places they have succeeded, but this is in mostly uniform, population dense areas where they can prep everything centrally to offer more consistency at a better price point. Then these regional prep places also have to account for supply chain problems like the price of things differing in some regions than others. In some places it's actually not that bad, but in others it's pretty awful and then they also have to deal with people on the internet offering their opinions.

Panera wagie here. Allow me to offer a bit of insight.

All of our customers are either A) old people or B) white women, with only occasional smatterings of everyone else. The issue is that, while we have had and do have some quality items on the menu, our clientele do not like these items and do not order them, meaning that corporate eventually quietly cycles them out.

It also does not help that Panera wants to have its cake and eat it too-- salads and sandwiches are made to order, but they're made by mouthbreathing apathetic fast food workers, meaning they always do sloppy work if not completely fuck up their tickets. Similarly, we do use fresh produce and sous vide meats, but the quality control is awful because Panera uses the cheapest distributors possible.

For these reasons, corporate is continuously attempting to "streamline and simplify" the menu, which means that any item with unique ingredients-- i.e. any item that tastes different from the others on the menu-- gets phased out. The Turkey Apple Cheddar Sandwich, the Steak & Arugula Sandwich, the Spicy Thai Chicken Salad, the Modern Greek Quinoa Salad, all decent dishes that got phased and replaced due to having unique ingredients and/or because our customers only want an avocado BLT, Grilled Cheese, Caesar Salad or Mac n' Cheese.

Pic related, our new Mac n' Cheese sandwich, made entirely from ingredients we already had. It's very popular.

tl;dr: Panera has some high-quality stuff but hires cheap staff and our customers don't like flavor so we usually just keep the bland garbage that sells.

Old people love it. Every time I've eaten at LJS, it was because an old person wanted us to go there. Guess it used to be a much more popular restaurant and now they're gliding along with their aging clientele. Based on what other people have posted, it sounds like once the old person level in an area drops below a certain level, they convert the LJS into a KFC.

Out of curiosity, my wife and I ordered some lunch from there and I tried out "broccoli mac n cheese bowl". Wasn't really surprised to see it was just their broccoli and cheddar soup with macaroni pasta thrown in.

99% of propaganda about slavery is outright forgery. Even without addressing the fact the majority of slaveowners were Jews rather than white christians, just think about it logically:
Slaves were essentially farm equipment, no different than mules or oxen. For the same reason you wouldn’t just beat the shit out of and overwork your farm animals, you wouldn’t abuse your slaves. Because a weak half-dead slave makes for a terrible pack animal. Plantations were not in the business of just arbitrarily abusing negroes for the sake of it, they were in the business of growing crops and selling them. And for slaves to efficiently work crops to the level that you get the highest profits, you need slaves that are loyal and healthy enough to actually WORK.
Don’t forget, slaves outnumbered their slave masters 10:1 on average, in an era where most guns could only fire a single shot and then took 30 seconds to reload. It would’ve been effortless for a group of just 3 slaves to overthrow their master if they wanted to do it.

my takeaway from panera is that from the very limited, very short-lived experiences of going there (because the food absolutely fucking sucks and is way overpriced) is that this is the absolute best part of being in a panera. hearing their underpaid teenage workforce bicker and moan. they're typically fully employed with the world's shittiest people, all under 20 and ignorant teenage girls. recalling my first time ordering there (this isn't very interesting so feel free to not read this at all):
>get something off the menu and wait for order to be made standing in front of make line
>next person in line starts to order at register
>asks for some item on rye bread (or whatever bread it was, i don't give a fuck about your menu)
>cute young girl, likely no older than 17, ringing customer out, happily takes order down and takes the payment
>from the makeline i'm standing in front of: one of the three bitchy teenage girls making all the food shouts over (allow me to sub in a fake name) "Trisha, you *know* we don't have that bread."
>this cashier chick _actually_ starts crying, and HARD, pulling her apron into her face and walks through the flappy door into the back
i can't fathom what emotional abuse that was going on up until this point that actually warranted real tears in this situation instead of a "fuck you, i quit" but that situation made me not like the chain automatically and i've just not gone back to that location. visited some others when i was absolutely desperate for a quick eat, but i got shit soup that tasted like it came out of a frozen bag because it was, served in the stalest inedible bread ever. so that's it, fuck panera.

This hurts because it is kind of true, and yes in my opinion I think it used to be good. As a kid when I was out running errands or something with my mom, getting a quick lunch was always Subway. I have fond memories of sitting there and looking at the maps on the walls of the train system, eating what I thought at that time was a "deli sub". Probably the only reason that I can rationalize eating at Subway is if you are fueling up on the highway, it's attached to the gas station, and going anywhere else would be a significant detour when you just want to get back on the road.

One of the biggest problems that affects quality of franchise places is that the franchise owns the supply of the food and forces the franchises to buy from only them. The vegetables at Subway are an example of this. A Subway franchisee cannot source their own tomatoes, for example, even though local sources may be cheaper and fresher. They must purchase them through Subway itself, who place a ridiculous markup on them, squeezing the profits out of the franchisees. A McDonalds franchisee averages an annual salary of around $35k-$40k per year, per store. That's if the owner works 40 hours per week as well. That's not a lot for the investment that they must make to buy into one in the first place, and very difficult to gain the profits to buy another. Subway franchisees make even less per store.

You have no fucking idea what you are talking about and have most likely never cooked a single thing in your entire life. Are you implying that things in Chipotle are no longer made fresh? The food is all raw aside from the meat which is cooked on the fucking grill right in front of your god damn face, and the trouble with people getting sick was due to lettuce which is the fault of the distributor. A burrito from Chipotle still costs less than $9 in current year. Faggot. And no I don't eat there I buy my burritos from places that aren't chain.

Theres a gourmet burger place next to my five guys that does similar burgers but with much nicer ingredients for the same price.

Five Guys isnt the worst thing ive eaten, its just for its price I can go to a nicer independent burger joint which does the same thing better. Its price doesn't suit its quality.

The clientele thing is spot on. I worked in a college town and every white girl orders tha mac n cheese.

They also pay like absolute shit. I worked there for over a year and came in every time someone called in. Worked pretty hard doing the closing most nights, and the most I get is a 10 cent raise.

A purely Italian restaurant is hard to run cheap, the "ideal" is usually made with a shitload of meat and high quality produce.
