Aside from rice & beans, what are some other cheap ways to stretch your food budget, especially with proteins?

Is liver still cheap? I see it so rarely but it's never too much cheaper than getting a pack of chicken thighs or pork shoulder even though the portion size is smaller.

2 dash of hot sauce
2 dash of worcestershire sauce
2 green onions

Sardine salad is good. I usually prefer to use my tuna for a creamy tuna pasta. There are several ways to make it but I primarily use cream of mushroom soup.
