McDicks is always very slow to adapt due to how many locations there are, many still use an outdated ABS that has a limited number of connections for syrups. Same reason their icecream machines always break down, their equipment is all 30 years old.

The ice cream machines break down because they're all a single specific SKU from a company that certain high level McDonalds executives control. The franchises are required to ONLY operate that single machine type.
Said machine is terrible, and is practically designed to break down because of it's automated systems that doesn't work properly (it's meant to disinfect the machine without requiring removal of the ice cream inside, which gets heated up and cooled back down safely while still inside). The franchises are locked into expensive contracts that force them into calling out the company to repair & unlock them from their failure modes. Other fast food stores use older machines which can't keep the ice cream inside, require more manual labour but are much easier to clean and far less likely to crash or break.
The machines are so bad, the contracts are so awful, and the conflict of interest is so extreme it's being investigated by the FTC or FDA or some fucking government agency.
